I think that this might be a picture of the 33 willys that you are talking about. If not the picture without lettering is supposed to be the Big Ed car when he bought it.

More from the George Klass Collection:

    769434_orig.jpg
A&B Speed Shop, from Massachusetts...this was a hard running car, towed all the way out to Bakersfield, blew the motor on the first run...ouch!

    1689556_orig.jpg
Ted Cooper, from Imperial Beach, CA. Powered by a carbureted Lincoln, this car made the cover of HRM with its radical headers that ran down in front of the engine. Apparently cooling problems resulted in a more traditional header setup.

    2330724.jpg
Hut Watkins, Buick powered roadster from Visalia, CA, painted in "Smoker's purple." Hut bought this car from Dave Marquez, whose Ardun deuce roadster was a HRM cover car, beautifully finished...Ed Fant Buick would later sponsor this car.

    2815497_orig.jpg
Chuck Flores on a wild run. This was the former Safford, Gaide, and Ratican "Sour Sister" shark car

    3527021_orig.jpg
Rakers Car Club Fiat C/C from Long Beach, sponsored by Reath Automotive. Later the Rakers would field a fuel dragster that Bruce Woodcock would drive (fatally, unfortunately, in 1962)

    6572186.jpg
Jim Cassiday's street roadster, late '50s. Jim would go on to field a T roadster with a blown Chrysler, took several top eliminators at San Gabriel in '58 after SG banned competition cars due to two fatal accidents.

The Nichols Brothers injected fuel Olds, given the aircraft hangers in the background, this could be Santa Ana. These guys set ET records throughout Southern California, one of the very few Olds powered fuelers in a field dominated by Chryslers. Walt Nichols drove, sponsored by Quincy Automotive in Santa Monica. I saw this car at Pomona in '57, right after the fuel ban kicked in.

    8495534.jpg
    Rod Stuckey's Buick-powered car. 9014891.jpg
Ike Iacono's car, maybe at this point in its life owned by Tom Taros? Once orange and GMC-powered, it later ran a SBC. I think it has been restored to its earlier version.

One and the same. Second pic is from '67 debut at E'Town when original owner builder had it. First is Capitol, probably 69 or 70. Carl always ran it as a BB/GS.

  16. Boy do I remember the Cassidy & Sons blown Chrysler powered T roadster! They flat towed it with Jim's '48 Cad 4 door. The Cad looked like something from the Grapes of Wrath. They ran a 2 speed LaSalle trans behind the Chrysler. Damn thing would haul ass, over 130, but wouldn't ET with that trans. Best they could muster was around 11.40's. Had a lot of fun racing them on Sundays at Pomona. By '63 we had my RPU in the high 11.20's at around 120. I beat that T 2 or 3 times for little eliminator. Old Jim would get so worked up when that "damn little Chevy" would beat his big bad Chrysler. I would beat it to the ET clock, but at the top speed clock that big bastard would blow by like a freight train. God, those were fun days!
