Like the song says"First I had a little , and it made me feel better, so I thought I'd have a little bit more...." I think there's a reason they call it the Betty FORD Clinic? Just one more.......maybe two?

Addicted? Probably, but so what? In case you haven't figured the world out yet, there are LOTS of worse things to be addicted to!

I forgot the question. I am no more addicted to the HAMB than I am to old cars and trucks. I can quit anytime I want.

I never really thought of it as an addiction until just now... yep, I guess I am addicted; just like I am addicted to cars. I can't explain it... I was born this way... its how I am wired... I have, and I always will have, the affliction. Cars just trip my trigger! If you have the addiction, enjoy the affliction! :)

    Happily addicted. I suppose.
It makes me much more creative till my mind is a-glow with whirling transcient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapor of invention.
    Then I go wreck something.

I look at it this way. I've just had my NINTH spinal surgery, and have been on pain management narcotics since 2005; on and off before then as far back as 1990. From a medical standpoint, this is called "dependancy" as it's a requirement, as opposed to an abuse situation as in "addiction". I'm also dependant on the HAMB, and one of the first things I did after getting home from the hospital, after 3 days there, was to log into JalopyJournal.Com/the HAMB. "Hello, my name's Butch, and I'm a dependant". I've weaned myself off pain medication many times, even quit them cold turkey (that's a little rough), but it's short lived due to chronic pain. I've done TENS units, bio feedback, toughing it out, and although there are times I don't think pain medication does't help, after being off them and going back onto them, it does. So, this is my life. My career was in healthcare as an X-Ray/CAT Scan Tech, and that is what caused both my neck and lower back issues; lots of lifting, bending, turning, twisting, pulling, pushing, etc. But, the injuries were not my fault; they were caused by situations out of my control. Take care of you spines! Don't lift those blocks/heads/rearends without help, or the use of machinery. At some point, it WILL catch up to you. You don't want to become "dependant" on more than just the HAMB. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

My HAMB participation is somewhat sporadic. As official Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition supermodel bikini fitter and adjuster, my travels to remote island beaches limits my internet access for certain times of the year. It's tough being away but a guy's got to make a living.

This joint is more of an affliction vs an addiction. You can't fault folks' afflictions. The difference between a drunk and an alcoholic? Meetings. Rehab is for quitters. I've been without the HAMB a few times for 1 reason or another, but I do like it more than the other offerings out there. It's closer to reality. Think about that for a minute. How many events do you attend and bump into those with the same affliction? See what I mean? How many cars do you end up seeing in person after you've seen em here? Is it the HAMB or:

  27. HAMBaholic? Addicted? I once played in a club where the "regulars" were so regular that if they weren't going to be at the bar that evening they would call in sick to the bartender. The HAMB isn't quite there yet...but almost!

I love this place and I probably spend too much time here when I could be doing other things but damn it, I love it. Honestly, I have hardly any "car guy" friends and the ones I do have aren't into traditional hot rods. This is really my only connection to "like minded" individuals. I have only met a handful of HAMBers in person but I have made some pretty good friendships here and "met" a lot of darned decent folks.

There are a lot worse things I could be addicted to. My wife always knows where to find me when I'm not at work. I'm either in the garage or on the HAMB. Like she says, "At least you don't play golf."

  28. Mike,my friend you have summed it up as well a anyone,we all enjoy the cars but the friendships and the good folks we communicate with on a regular basis is a bonus. HRP

If there we no HAMB addicts there would be no HAMB.couldn't even imagine,I'm happy to be among the ranks of the addicted.I am on here 3 or 4 times a day so I fit the profile.
