Looking for recommendations for a rebuilder in Southern California for the 392 hemi in my '57 Chrysler 300. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Dan

  2. Tri City Competition in Vista. (760)630-9094, talk to Greg. You can also try Picks Racing Engines here in Irvine. (714)662-5797 if you don't mind driving a little further.

I know you said SoCal, but Doug's Custom Grinding in Ft.Collins Colorado has done cranks, heads, boring, etc on a number of early hemi's for me and has built a number of others. He knows the motors.

I spoke to Greg today and he says he's never done a 392 before....has done 426 but not 392. Suggests I call "Smokey's" in Oceanside. Irvine is looking better right now.

Jerry at Wholesale Machine in Grantville says Rick used to work there but inherited money from his folks 8 years ago and hasn't worked a day since. Can't say as I blame him.

There is an engine builder in North El Monte called JMS 5450 N. Peck Peck Road. (626) 579-4567. These guys are very good and reasonable.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to make a swing through that area and talk to several rebuilders that I've found through this forum.

I met with Pick...very nice guy, clean shop...no doubt his shop could do it.
But for $10,000 to rebuild my engine, I'll keep looking.

What are you wanting done? the whole build? If just basic overboreing, ect it shouldn't be much if you're the one who's assembling the engine, or are you going exotic?

No doubt that's not inexpensive , but having had two engines built by Pick , I will say that I enjoyed several years and thousands of miles of trouble free driving . I've never had a Hemi , but I've always heard that they're fairly expensive to build . Good luck in your continued search .

The PARTS are expensive, basic machine shop work is basic machine shop work, unless wanting exotic things done.
