Did a bunch of clean up, bracket removal and hole filling. I got tired of hitting my shins into all the sharp corners of the remaining brackets and mounts so I radiused all of them. I boxes the remaining section of the trans x member as well, and filled the inline 6 motor mounts.

I was going to order some traction masters, but I don't think they're in business anymore. Either that or they don't answer email's and phone calls.

I decided to make my own. I drew it up at lunch today, and it will be made out of 1.5" chromoly with polyeurathane bushings.

Got the frame completely stripped for powder coating this week.

Also picked up a 10 bolt from a shop where the customer skipped the bill.

3.73s, auburn posi, and billet axles.

Should be a pretty stout rear end for the car.

Sand blasted and applied the filler over the pitting. This stuff is pretty cool. You can powder coat over it.

I'd say you can/should go into business making V-8 swap parts for these 49-54 Chevrolet cars. Have your own rolling test bed in the 49 Coupe, and parts that look good and fit right. The trans cross member is one everyone wonders how to do correctly; I'd say you nailed it. Keep up the good work. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I just went your thread and I love it! A second chance at something you loved, but this time you know what you're doing. You're doing a great job, and your mounts are way cool. Reading this just makes me want to get my 50 done that much faster.

Thank you. I appreciate the compliments. If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. I have made plenty of mistakes on these chevy's so I can at least tell you what to NOT do. haha!

Got the ch***is back home. Had to mock the motor and trans up. Parts take up less garage space when they're on the car...

Started the greasy job of dis***embling the leaf packs. Soaked them in oven cleaner and will be pressure washing them later to prep for paint and re ***embly.

Got the bushings pressed in and mocked up the rear axle. Going to drill the u bolt plates tomorrow at work for the offset pin on stock leaves.

Also picked up this neat trick from Dzauto on Chevy talk when rebuilding a front end on these cars.

This trick works great. 1/2" all thread through the shock holes, double nut one side and tighten the other to compress the spring and dis***emble the front end.

Here's the total damage for the night. I hit every fastener with pb blaster once a week for a month and it practically fell apart. I'm a believer...

Nice, thanks for the tip. I'm sure I'll be putting that to use here at some point. Your frame is looking good.

Here's the completely stripped front cross member. The upper inner shafts are in incredibly good shape, so the need to drive them out is gone.

I replaced everything since the crossmember was out and the shafts came in the rebuild kit. I had to heat the towers to get the shafts to unscrew with a 4 ft pipe.
