Hot Rods Walking Parts

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by blackjack, Jan 5, 2015.

  1. I'm using a pair of 26T headlamps on my Modified. I'd separated the stands and the bowls to have them blasted prior to painting. They've been sitting on a shelf in the workshop for a couple of years waiting their turn.

That turn came last week. I can find two bowls but only one stand. I've had the workshop upside down looking for it but cannot find the damn thing. I don't trade in parts - stuff comes in and doesn't go out again. I have no idea where the hell it has gone. Sad thing is that it's not the only part that's gone walkabout.

So... has anyone got a bare headlamp stand? Just the stand - no bucket. They're not thick on the ground over here in England. I will pay reasonable price and postage.

as soon as you buy one.....receive it.....you'll find the lost one.....guaranteed! :)

  3. Yep, it's where it shouldn't be and why would you look where it shouldn't be?

I looked and looked and looked for my drill press chuck. Couldn't find it anywhere. Did without it for a month but needed it. Looked again and no luck So I bought another one at 150.00. A few days later it turns up in a box of header bends on a shelf clear across the shop.

  4. Without a shadow of a doubt....

I think that the little Bastards are hiding from us!

  7. Try looking for something else.
That seems to be when I find walking parts.

  12. I feel your pain,it took me 9 years to build our wagon and I ended up having to but another set of lift gate hinges,a door latch and the A pillar garnish moldings.

I have since found the door latch but the other parts most have grown legs and walked off. HRP

Well, now that the 37Kid has one in hand for you the one you are missing should pop up. I can very well relate though. I never leave my garage door open as the Red Cross always shows up clipboards in hand wanting to know about the "storm damage".

Happens here a lot with parts and tools as well. I'm sure someone comes in here at night and moves things around. I look and look and finally give up and replace the missing item-then find it in some weird place I must have put it so it would not get misplaced and some aren't small items like 40 emergency brake handles and cowl vents !!!

I hate when you have something sitting in one place, it's there for months, the day you go for it it's gone.

  19. I think Stimpy hit the nail on the head garage gnomes and the beer quota.
I have this old bag of bones that sets up on top of my work station smoking his cigar that I think comes down at night and drinks my beer and screws with my parts and tools just to mess with my mind.

  20. I haven't really figured out who or what moves the parts around however I'm fairly certain the dryer takes socks and makes Tupperware lids and the same fuckers that move the parts shove the lids in the cabinet.

  21. I keep loosing parts and tools etc, but when I find them I seem to remember putting it there:confused:........ then I call myself some very colourful things!!:D JW

I think your on to something here . what gets me was even in a locked cabinet they can move , suckers must have a master key for the lock ..

as for my garage gnome . it's 5'8" and has red hair and she was caught red handed moving stuff in the no tresspassing zone ( house is hers garage is mine , no house stuff in the garage unless she wants me building engines in the living room or the car ( seats on the 50 are more comfy than the $$$ couch ) ) , and denied it and I had video proof and the dust pile outline on the shelf also was used as evidence

Sometime after searching in vane for a bolt or socket I've dropped I'll take another one of the same size and set it in the same place for perspective, and wonder how something so obvious could have completely disappeared.

One time it took me 6 years to find a pitman arm I lost. You always find the stuff by accident. What a rush. The other day I was trying to remove a tach needle & it popped off & flew toward a bookshelf in my office. I turned that whole bookshelf upside down looking for it & guess what I found? The old blueprints for my house that I've been looking for, for the past year. After that, I went to pick up a wad of dog hair & found the needle. It gets worse as you get older. It never gets better.

  27. 9/16 wrenches, I have 9 of them and can never find one. Tape measures, I have 4, can never find one.
And the big one........I have five right hand gloves and cannot find a left. I only have a 1.5 car garage.
"lost" a new steering arm for my 47, bought a new one....two weeks later I opened a crate of old parts and found my old "new" arm???? Now I have two...

Didn't start happening until I turned 70--is that a hint?? Well I went out in the garage and had a beer and left one for the "little people" who take stuff at night-maybe they will return my restored 40 clock.

When I lose something I start cleaning the garage. The part usually gives up before I get very far. This is why my garage never gets compleatly cleaned.
