WOW what a thread blasting Bubbas Ignition. 17,373 views with 122 replys..... Guess i better respond with a detailed answer . I tryed answering the questions in the thread but seems as if many havent read the entire thread , so lets review......
Our shop has built and shipped almost 1000 ignition distributors in the last two years. 470 In 2013 and 360 in 2014 ! 2014 was less because i took some time off for surgery ( this getting old aint for sissys) and closed part of the business ( Linder Fuel Injection).
Pete at Bundaberg Auto Salvage sent me two distributors from AU to convert one into electronic ignition and rebuild in 2013. I talked to Pete and agreed to take the project on. The distributors ( 2 of them) was shipped to the shop. The pics attached shows what i recieved ,not the worse i ever seen but pretty close. Just two junk yard 6 cylinder Dodge KEW engine ( AU) Both distributors were in very bad condition. I thought at the time the best way to repair would be to cut the drive off one of these and transplant/machine another more useable top end to it. My machine shop guy was off having surgery at the time and the rotation wasnt something i had a replaceable core to work into the deal at the time , so they just kinda layed there. After some time i talked to Pete at Bundaberg and suggested he call Tom Langdon as i knew he had made up some of these flathead dodge units.
This Pete did and as far as i know the Langdon unit worked very well, so that parts done..
Problem comes from what do i do with these old cores ??. In my world they are not worth the cost to ship back to AU so i didnt return them at all. Most wouldnt pay $5 each for these !
Now comes the hamb police ! The thread has 17,373 views and 122 replys. Thanks for the good replys out there but i dont understand the bad replys when the replier dont have a clue as to what happened here at all!! So view the pics and wonder what value these have as i ship them this week back to AU to Bundaberg Auto Salvage ! Hopefully Pete and I can actually do business again some day and some of you "closet" hot rodders can get off my ****!!!!!!!

Just to lighten the mood a little, Bubba I have a built 50 flathead. So, to order a distributer would you need the cam specifications , etc?

Jim,I totally agree they are not worth the trouble or expense of sending them back but it seems Pete ain't gonna quit bad mouthing you/your business as long as you still have his junk parts in your possession. HRP

Those look like Lucas parts, so I can see why they might have little value.

 (sorry, just trying to add a little levity to a serious matter)

Given the limited rpm of the flatheads most we use the same curve 24 degrees all in at 2500 rpm. Blown engine would require a little different curve....

Well said man! Lots of "closet hotrodders" on here now a days holding court all day long. They forgot where their garage is.
I took advantage of your 2 for 1 deal some time ago. Service was excellent. Beautiful work and very fast turnaround. Just wanted to say thanks.

Junk or not, they belong to the customer right? Send them back, lose a couple bucks, make them happy.

Thanks for getting back to us. Can I expect my Mallory back sometime? I didn't think it was junk, and actually told you to notify me if it was, and to just toss it if it was. Since I didn't hear back from you, I ***umed it would be good enough. Also, are you changing your business model from generalized ignition work to just supplying the converted new GM SBC distributors? I still have 2 SBC Mallory's I need converted.

  12. I don't have a dog in this,,,

    But - "WOW" my ***.
In May you posted an explanation, an apology, a promise to ship the parts, a res***ution to make things up, and finished with "guilty as charged" I felt that was an honest commendable and honorable post. Now today it's different " Problem comes from what do i do with these old cores ??. In my world they are not worth the cost to ship back to AU so i didnt return them at all. Most wouldnt pay $5 each for these !"

The problem didn't arise over night, and the problem isn't some junk cores. The problem is about telling someone exactly to expect from you and then not doing it. Nobody is perfect and we all falter, have troubles, get delayed, depend on but can't control 3rd parties and just plain old drop the ball. That was all eloquently addressed in May.

Way too much good by gmcbubba for this to be acceptable to gmcbubba

I was rooting for you until the not worth shipping back part......that's his property and it doesn't matter if they are worth anything to you. It's the same as stealing in my book, if you are not going to do the job send the man his property back, it's just that simple. They are not yours to throw away.

Bubba, are you still doing "other" OEM distributors? Besides the Chevy/flathead ones?
I have a couple Ford 300 six ones that need a recurve and tune up.

That's me to a Tee. The problem's not what transpired but what didn't and two years is too long for this deal whatever transpired. I hope everyone's satisfied in the end.

That's one of the problems with the internet, get one bad response, and the whole world jumps down your throat. This really shouldn't have been aired here, but should have been done privately between the two parties. I don't know either party, and I'm not going to find fault where there may have been a simple misunderstanding.

Your first statement is correct. Your second one is incorrect. If you read the the OP's first post ibn the orginal thread (you did, right?) I think you will see that he tried hard, over two years to make this work and felt he was being stonewalled. Post it on the HAMB, at least he got a response. The picture is more clear now that both sides have posted, but the delay still exists.

    Just in case:
has any one had any bad dealings with jim from bubba's hot rod shop , as I e/mailed him about repairing a distributor in mid 2013 , and he said he could do the job . I posted 2 distributors from Australia , he received them , and promised to have one fixed ( second one was for parts if needed )
All good things take time I thought , and after e/mails and phone calls , he said he would have them to me by Christmas 2013 , but I was let down again ( lied to )
I ordered one from tom Langdon , of stovebolt fame ( even though the dissy in question was for flathead mopar ) and within 2 weeks had it in oz ,
I phoned Jim lindner again he said he hadn't done my dissy and would send them both back .
Still waiting , pretty ****ty customer service !

WOW! Two responses from Bubba to this thread and still no answer to my question? And one response is "SURE SEND THEM IN." Yeah Bubba, put some more in the queue in front of mine. If it is done, I will give you my address in Florida so you can send it. I believe I have been patient and even-handed through all of this, but I am starting to get a little irritated.

I've dealt a fair amount in overseas parts to and fro, and it is frustrating when the shipping is near equal value to the parts. Sounds like Bubba's going to return them, however another suggestion would be to offer a labor credit for the parts value to Pete since it sounds like he doesn't need them any longer, who could in turn "sell" the credit to someone here on the HAMB. No wasted shipping costs.

I understand where your coming from about not sending junk back but.... It's always re***uring to a customer to have the old parts back... Even if they are junk. It just makes the deal feel complete.

Iv heard nothing but good things about your work and hope someday to do business with you.

I can see both sides clearly now...justice will be well served by Jim shipping the parts at his expense Overnite Shipping to Oz...firing all his employees...closing the business...divorcing his wife...selling off all his possessions and donating all monies to the victims' favorite charity.
I know I'll sleep better later knowing this type of customer service behavior will not be tolerated here.

Sounds completely rational, Larry, but we have come to expect that from you...

Bubba, you'll still get my bucks when they need to be spent! Some of the best service I have had in this industry.
