Clay, I think so. I was worried about the shifter, but I think I shall should be ok.

 

Go with a '40 column and the shifter will fo sho be no issue.

if you ever find yourself needing a slightly shorter shock cross reference Monroe part # 5752. roughly 8.5 compressed and 12.75 extended. they cross for 50s barndoor vw bus, 50s willys, and a bunch of other stuff. i run the monroe version on my vw's. good shocks, cheap, and either in stock or next day at most any flaps.......

Great build Chris! Just read it all from the beginning while watching the Rose Parade. Nice, practical and clean build and very inspirational to all us home garage guys. This thread and 40studedude's '60 Chevy wagon thread really drive it home that a nice car doesn't take big bucks or mad skills, but rather good planning and sticking with it through the boring stuff.

I do have a question back from the beginning, though. What do you use for blast sand? I've been using garnet from tractor supply, but it's expensive and goes fast. Surely there is a better and less expensive option?

Chris, I left that "WalMart Bag" hanger on the back of the seat I put in the '40 truck. Comes in handy for hanging my tie down straps, a chamois and various other things.

Root, your build is great! Most of us would like to do it as well, but don't have the skills. Can't wait for more.

 

I used fine playground sand. It comes in 80# bags. Sorry, I missed this question. I have ADD I think.

Good deal, thanks! That has to be quite a bit cheaper than a bucket of garnet. I'm nearing a point in one of my projects that I'd like to do a fair amount of blasting and was dreading the idea of how much the garnet was going to cost to get it done.

I pay about $5 bag. It fills that big blaster I have for a while.

 

Do you have any problems with the play sand clogging up? I have a blaster similar to yours and have filtered/dried air.

Dang, Dave I don't even have filtered air....no problems. I just have a couple of water traps between the compressor and the outlets.

I bet I have blasted 10 cars with this blaster. I just leave the sand on a pallet, off the ground until I need it. I don't open it until I pour it in. Also, I don't blast when the humidity is up real high.

I don't have some fancy system, just the water traps like you and then on my line that I use for painting, the blast cabinet and the plasma cutter I have one of those filter cans that uses the paper filter inside that's like a toilet paper roll as an extra try-and-make-sure-my-air-is-dry-here-in-800%-humidity-Arkansas.

I love the fuse box detail. I think my seat bottom will flip up so I may not need to do something like that but will keep it in mind anyway.

 

Great build. One of the best things IMHO is the "history" of the old cars and trucks we all love.
Hope to see the truck up and running at the St Louis Hot Rod Hundred this fall!!!

 

I almost didn't read this thread because of the ***le. Sometimes we can be so narrow minded and miss the coolest stuff. This is an awesome build and thread ! Thanks and keep it up. I am glued to this !
