Gringo, GREAT pic. Paul Frost's car must have been a handfull. Every shot I have seen shows him having to steer it. Red Baron looks like it's just "Cadillac'n".

These from the George Klass collection...Texas's Bruce Norman, the "Bald Iggle" sponsored by Scotty's Auto Parts, blown Olds on gas

    7220495_orig.jpg
Surfers on their East Coast trip...compare this picture to today's fuel dragster pits...wood ramps to load the car into the enclosed trailer they bought for their safari, the tow car is a '55 Chev with a 6...no barriers, no super-expensive rigs, no sponsor weasels, just pure drag racing....

    GBP, maybe Fontana?

McEwen and Adams gas Olds, Fuller chassis...this car would lose the shark fin body and become the Davis, Purcell etc. Mangler that Danny Ongais drove...

Snake vs Goose at Carlsbad...this and the above 2 from the Snake & Mongoose site on FB

The Goose in the Hemi Cuda...many of you remember that it got lift, went over backwards with McEwen driving, "Fearless" Fred Goske fixed it and ran it for a while before building a new tube frame 'glass car

Another blurry picture, but it's Boyd Penington, May 1957...(and his name is spelled correctly!). Boyd was a RACER, plain and simple...

Money Olds car at Lions, May 1957...Lions had gone to gas only by this time...Sampson would go on to win the '57 NHRA Nationals...notice that Lions was sanctioned by ATAA (American Timing Association and one more A that I forgot!) ATAA was operated by Arnold Maremont of Maremont Muffler, and was largely a Midwest based sanctioning body. But later that year it would merge with NHRA, Wally swallowed yet another competing timing association...

Drag News writer was right on this one "Watch this one!" Later that year they would run 169 at Davis-Monthan AFB...

For those of you who remember Jim Miles' puking out his engine in his AA/FA Fiat coupe at Lions, here is Jim's earlier version (posted above in a later form)...This is mid-1957, fuel ban had hit San Fernando so Jim switched accordingly...later he would return to nitro...I remember it best at Fontana, LOUD!

    upload_2015-1-16_20-8-11.png
Inyokern was still running fuel in '57, as was Colton...Cook & Bedwell's car started out as the Scotty Fenn-chassised Cad powered car that I posted pictures of earlier....These guys held the all-time record until Nov '57, when Garlits raised it from 169 (also held by Speed Sport) to 176 at Brooksville, FL

Dean commented earlier on the T-version of Jim Cassedy's street roadster...this is mid-57
