Hell Gary, if it wasn't for the Silly Bowl in town right now, I'd say hop a plane and come over for a few days. Unfortunately, the foot ball fans have driven the price of a ticket to Phoenix into the stratosphere. That and I probably couldn't even get to the airport to get ya, even though it's only three miles away...

  2. Not to mention the Phoenix Open going on next door to me and billions of people overwhelming north Scottsdale (100,000 were here on a THURSDAY!). It might be safe to fly in to Mesa. Or Tuscon. Or Flagstaff.....

    Larry,
I hear you there! Even though I have one, I always thought they looked cartoon-ey or dumb, but yet still for some reason like them.... My first truck was this hand me down farm truck from my grandpa. For whatever reason, my brother and I decided it would be cool to put in a chrome skull shift knob. It looked awful, but we thought it was cool. My main interest in the Norm skull was to pay tribute to the father of the T bucket, although it might have been a tiny bit cheaper to just hang a poster on my wall... Oh well.

    Chip,
Where's the upholstery posts? Kidding, kidding. I know you're a busy guy. Excited to see, though.

Thanks guys I know I'm always welcome but I was just kidding. Been cooped up in the house climbing the walls for two weeks In 70 degree clear sunny roadster weather with the flu. Nothing to put me to bed just feel krappy! That's probably why I'm posting so much here. It's all I have to do but watch old movies on T.V. So guys pay little attention to me, I'm feverish. Well that's my excuse this week. When I get feeling better I'll have to find another.
    Gary

Hey Gary....I should have tried to write my post in `Merican, I suppose .......What I meant was that the Ivo version was great, The Rolland version was really great, and the Re-do by Hy Rosen after he bought the car from Bill was HIDEOUS......By the way.....Hope you have that `flu bug licked...

Found a pair of 15x5 `53-6 Pickup wheels for the front...picking those up Sunday

El Hueso...That is off topic for this thread...but...I know where that particular car is (The Emmons one...)--and it isn`t far away from you or me...and it`s stored up on a Shelf by a very well known Bonneville Car....

Hey guys, dealing with some asthma B.S. tonight, and I just don't have the energy to do the posts I wished tonight. I'll do a spoiler and just show a completed picture of the tonneau for now. How to make it, well hopefully tomorrow.

Looks really nice, Chip. Good thing a little G&T fixes asthma right up, huh? I don't really know that for sure, just speculating.

Hey I like that but I think I used that a lot of years ago. Maybe "Old Timers".

Gang, I need your input. The seat base is done, the tonneau is done, the door panles will be a doddle to do. The seat back and a simple decision is making me crazy.

    1. Do I roll the seat back material over the top of the body and fasten it with nicely spaced snaps after binding it to mimic the tonneau cover? I'm talking to just the horizontal rail of the body, not all the way over to the body's outside.

    2. Or, do I simply wrap it over the top of the seat back former and body work and finish the top of the body rail?

Help! it's on of those details that is driving me nuts, and I hate to admit it, but part of what is taking so long on this project... now is the time to make my decision.

I personally lean toward rolling it over the top of the body "like they usta"

Actually, you'd be surprised, but it actually does! Liquor relaxes you, and loosens up all the tight stuff that makes it hard to breath. If this crap keeps up though, I'll be a genuine alcoholic in a week or two.

I vote for the simple just roll it over the seat back. I like the look of the body line and color next to the upholstery. Also if you ever want a top it will be easier to attach. I like the simple look. You have to be careful rolling upholstery over. A little too far and it just overpowers the car. That might be the only thing I don't like on the DeBenictis T.

Ya, that's been part of what I have been reasoning to myself.

If I roll it to the horizontal rail of the body, it's literally going to be easier and quicker to get the body and paint done, plus it will hide the screws to attach it to the body, and it will match the tonneau with the buttons and all. the donside is that I'll have to bind the whole thing like I did with the tonneau, and that was a bit nerve wracking to do well, and is far from perfect on the tonneau.

To me, if I roll it in a "U" shape and button it on the vertical part of the body, it gets to be WAY too much upholstery on the outside of the car for my tastes, plus it would mean more buttons to snap the top and drivers tonneau on.... Busy.

On the other hand though, to my mind, if I simply roll the fabric over the top of the seat liner and screw it all back in, that seems a little too modern for me, especially with no pleats or rolls to "traditionalize" things a bit. It also means I have to use exposed stainless screws around the top edge, Not a big deal visually for me, but not for everybody. It also means a bit more sanding, body work and prep for paint which will have to be as quick a deal as I can make it. It would look clean as all hell, but would it be too "clean"?

  17. After seeing your bucket in person, I was going to ask if you were planning on wrapping the upholstery over the top. I prefer wrapping it over the edge, but I can see where it would overpower such a small space. I think that attaching it to the horizontal part of the body would be a great middle ground between too much and not enough. You already know the right answer, just do it!

I think you've already established your theme with the tonneau, Chip. To do anything else with the seat back would be to violate the rules of natural symmetry...or some such horsepucky. I'm not a real fan of the DeBenedictus (however he spells it) "stud" look either but I think you're stuck with it now.

Watching the Movie Blue Max right now. Those old Bi Planes had the natural color leather upholstery tucked just over the lip. Looked great.

  20. Chip I noticed that there is no wooden tack strip at the top of the body. Would it be wise to create one and then roll the upholstery over that??

Rich bastard! You have the upgraded Direct TV with Fox movie Channel! I'd normally be on TCM, but I draw the line on days when it's all musicals... I'm just a bit too straight to do that! I should be out in the shop, but damn, it's raining cats and dogs, and I'm still not breathing very well. 'Bout 5 minutes out, and I'm back in.

No, if I do the roll to the horizontal, I'll use buttons just like I did on the tonneau instead of a tack strip and hidem' welt. I'm thinking maybe my mind is made up.... Maybe.

Great movie. Ursula is beautiful but Peppard is almost as pretty.

  23. I did what you normally suggest and that's is go back and look at all the old photos from the 60's to see how it was done. Did that and that just confused the issue cause there were as many done one way as the other. I think that now you have done your tonneau you have to carry on in the same vane and do your seat top the same. I think it would look odd if you did it different:confused:

The uncut version of Blue Max is just concluding on FXM. I don't recall much music. But I'm sure their was some award winning orchestration.

Did I mention their was a flash of one of Ursula's nipples. And a flash of one of Peppards which I didn't find as interesting.

Well good, I was a little worried about you after the "George Peppard was damn near as pretty comment"!

  28. I'm not going to get involved with how or how not too do your seat trim Chip but can I ask Gary to post some close up photo's of how his seat upholstery and tonneau cover is attached to the car and the finish etc please for my reference. Go on Gary, I know just how much you like posting photo's of your T :) but I do like your trim and it's early period correct look.
