I read this whole thread, knowing it was from 08, cause I wanted to see how the OPs truck looked painted. Didn't get to see that, but did find a cool quote from Mr ******.
Painted my 46 Ford convertible Dove Gray with red sunset pearl in the clear coat. You can only see the pearl in the sun light. I think it looks great.
You could put that in your sig line if you wanted. Dove gray is not as dark as most gray primer if that helps, but it is not as light as ghost gray. If you do a search you for it you may find a good pick of raven's '27 roadster it is ford tractor gray and it is really close to the dove gray that ford used.
Show cars get fancy paint, hot rods get sinister paint. A fella that had been running a primered closed cab A pickup about forever came by the Ol' Man's shop one Saturday morning and said he was going to paint his truck. Then began to wonder what color to paint it. The Ol' Man went and dug around in a closet for a bit and came back with a gallon of black lacquer, tossed it at him and said, "paint it fast"
Yep both look damned good. The "nouvelle" traditional is all backward to my way of thinking. Hotrods are getting all fancy paint and customs are getting Plain Jane paint jobs. A custom should get a bawdy paint job to attract chicks ( and the judges at a show) and a hot rod should be about as plane as apple pie, it has one purpose and one purpose only to make you pee when you mash the loud peddle.
