James Hetfield and Rick Dore reveal stunning "Aquarius" custom Sorry if this has already been posted... I searched and couldn't come up with another thread. It has some strong influences from Figoni & Falaschi and possibly other French coachbuilders... https://autos.yahoo.com/photos/jame...lYwNzcgRwb3MDMgRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1ZJUDU2NF8x
That looks pretty cool! Damn, those Metallica guys have a great taste for cars.Thats really something else than modern Ferrari's,Lamborghini's or other crap like that famous people prefer.
Do these cars realy count, seeing is how there is no part of a real car in them? I mean, the black pearl has no jag in it, yet they call it a custom 48 jag. How does that work?????? I'd have rather seen a real cutomized jag.
what exactly does Rick Dore do? I see his name associated with a bunch of cool cars. does he own a shop?
My friend and I were in the LA area for the roadster show last summer & toured many shops. I do believe the body was being constructed at Marcel's at that time. A sign on the car said "NO PHOTOS". Marcel is now working for his son in his new shop. They are the most enjoyable people to visit with. Very gracious.
I believe he now runs his own shop but I do not believe he does the work himself. I think he has a crew. He came to fame more along the lines of John D Agostino having shops Like Oz, Lucky 7 and Acme (when it existed in the 90's) build cars based on his ideas.
Rick Dore is more of a contractor/facilitator. He deals with the customer, provides design and guidance, puts together a proposal with a budget and then farms out the actual construction to high quality shops with whom he enjoys special working status. He does WAY more than just HAMB customs - a lot of his customers are professional people with OT rides. He is highly focused and very dedicated. While undergoing radiation therapy he worked full time. Incredible work ethic and he definitely gets the job done. He has earned his reputation 110%.
Thats saying it a little hard but yes but he designs some of the best modern customs and takes coach building to new highs. and he is a real car guy.
The guys brain sees design in ways I can't comprehend. I've known him for almost 20 years and seeing how he changes every detail to work with the next is amazing
Actually, I think that's a little harsh. I don't believe everything I see on TV (and I don't believe MOST of what I see on car shows), but it did seem like he got his hands dirty some in Car Hoarders. I also told my wife if they showed up at OUR house, I was giving Good Will free reign in her closet! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Perhaps some are unaware of how shops work. No pro builder does all of the work. It is just not possible. All decent shops have a staff. The work goes out under the name of the shop, or the builder. I worked for a "known builder" for a few years, turning out a good deal of what came out under his name. He worked some, but mostly collected the money. None of you know my name. Many of you know his. That's just the way it is.
I understand how it works my point was that I believe he is now running his own shop and as far as I know he doesn't fabricate but is a designer. In the past he would sub out the work to builders like Oz Welch and the Lucky 7 shop which is why I assume he doesn't fabricate at all.
I can see your point about calling it a jag when it's not. However I look at this as an ultra high dollar car that inspires and makes no concessions. There are many customs that at the end of the day have maybe 1% of the body to have been built by a car manufacturer. I look at this as a modern version of the 30's Duesenburg buyer who ordered a chassis and had a coach builder design and build a custom body to represent the owner's vision. For someone to look at a new Duesy in 1934 and complain it wasn't a real car since it didn't use a Ford cowl or grill would be laughable. Hetfield has modified many "real" cars and has the means to build his vision. I love the fact that this car and the Pearl follow a complete 30's era feel ( unlike an Excalibur or Zimmer from the 70s) and I am inspired by what they have accomplished.
