I have the T pictured. The rear tires are OLD and about to wear out anyway. So I am thinking of changing to Torq Thrusts and Diamondback Fury with an 8" tread width. The M/T Sportsman tires on there are about 12.5" tread width. Do you think the 8"/ Torq Thrusts would look OK on this car or confuse it even more? I know I'm asking for trouble asking for an opinion
They would look better than what you have now. Why not go way outside the box and put wide fives on it.
Know anyone you can borrow a set of wheels and tires similar to what you are thinking about for long enough to bolt them on and stand back and look at it from several angles and take a batch of photos to study a bit? You could even do it at their shop .
I graduated high school in 1963, that was the year Torq Thrust wheels were introduced by American Racing, now a 52 year old design, I've always liked them.
For reference only, I present my car. I have a set of original Torque Thrusts from '64, 15X6 on the front, and 15X8 on the back. The rears wear a set of Towel City cheater slicks 28.5 X 8, and the fronts Firestone FR560s 155/80 15. I am a stickler about real Torque Trusts, and not the later Torque Thrust "D"s that have been reproduced and copied forever. They do make the Torque Thrust TTO that is similar today, or E.T. does a nice straight spoke wheel, too. Something along these lines would do much for your car's proportions and to backdate it a bit, if that is your goal.
Actually, I was looking through your bucket of ugly thread to try and find out the tire sizes but it was way too long for my limited attention! Thanks!! Bill
When bought my "T" it had the same "big flat & little skinny" style as yours - I changed the whole theme of the car to the Tommy Ivo / Kooky Kar theme which included a lot of changes not just the wheel tire setup. But if all you are looking to change is the wheel tire combo - I like what you have now - it fits the theme nicely - but I would replace the rear tires and change the front wheels the match the rears - it's a very nice looking car.
The Americans are timeless and would look great imo. Chrome reversed rears/chrome fronts wouldn't be bad.
Absolutely! I have looked at Wheel Vintiques "OEM" chrome reverse wheels more than a few times thinking they would look damned good on my car too. The only problem is that guys don't see the major difference between the "OEM" style, and the gwad aweful "smoothies", so they get what is cheapest, most readily available and quickest.... The smoothies.... Glack!
Just, for the love of god, avoid the Torque Thrust "D"s on a hot rod. Nothing screams '90s, (and, "I just got the catalog and ordered whatever") like those damned curved spokes...
Chip: The one's on the front of my '32 are original mag "D"'s.... but I agree on the repop wanna "D"'s!
The original "D"s in Mag really don't look too bad, but when they repopped them in the early nineties, they slicked them up enough that they just look "artificial" to my rather discerning eye.
Yeah I guess the "D" wasn't their best effort. I'm just a freak for all early real ones. I even dig the Lemans style. All and all pointy's and round spokes rule!
