It has been recreated, the only thing left after it crashed at San Fernando was the engine...which was used in the recreation...(the accident put Bill Alexander in the hospital for months)

  4. Funny you should say that! My old Dell IS broken (no power), it has about 6k pics on it.I'm going to get it fixed, until then I'm using my wifes HP. Many of the pics are on Photobucket ( totally bites) some on Fotki as well. I've tried to back 'em up on flash drives, but it's a lot of work! they are not very organized either>
something to do while "retired" I guess.

As Hampton told the story when he got back to the US, he was T-boned by an Aussie racer but it actually was the other way around and he took out the Jim Reed Chesterfield car at Surfers Paradise.

  13. Recently my old computer went T.U. as the power supply gave up. Was told parts not available to fix it due to old age, so I got a new one which has the 8.1 OS. That OS works better on the mobile devices it was intended for than a PC. More to the point, I had a lot of pix and docs on the old machine transferred to the new one. Unfortunately, many were lost in the transfer, so bottom line is that backing up those files on a flash drive is the way to go, even if it's a royal pain in the patoot. Stay with it. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that we really appreciate those pix that you post.

  14. Thanks. It's nice to hear that some people enjoy the pics.I enjoy searching for the and collecting them.I wish I could have afforded to take more of my own though, believe it or not, one dollar was important then!

  15. I'm with ya on that! I didn't get a decent camera until I got off of active duty. Then it was, how do you work this 35mm thing. All those great races and cars I cud have recorded on film are in my memory, and it's fading faster than an old Polaroid pix.:)

This thread did not get to 1340 pages without everyone enjoying the great pics posted and stories told. Thanks for ALL of yours!
We are just beginning to see some from a lady named Judy Austin, who was there while Bobby (Speedy's Garage) was racing. Her shots may be the only pics some people ever see of their southern cars.
The Zot roadster link above was great connection of the present and past reunited by the HAMB.

And the Greek is still running!
Gary, thanks for all your effort posting these. Really enjoy your comments. I know everybody talks about the good ol' days but that truly was the golden
    era.

  18. Sometimes I don't comment because I assume everybody knows these cars and racers. I forget that much of this was decades before some of you were born! I guess that's old coot brain fade! It's interesting though, that young people might like stuff from 50 years ago!

  19. Don't give up all hope yet. The "missing" images may be on the hard disk of your new computer but "hidden" in a folder somewhere that you haven't found yet. There should be a way to do a System Search for images only. Or possibly a search for all JPEG files, which your photos likely are.
If they don't turn up that way, do you still have the original hard disk drive from your old computer? If so , there are ways to connect the old drive via USB to your new computer. It essentially acts like a giant thumb drive and can also be seached for all images or JPEG files. A local independant computer shop should be able to help you out. Or your friendly neighborhood computer geek.
If your old computer suffered a power supply failure, it's very likely that the old hard disk is still OK and still contains all your stored images and other files.

This is Ivo's in-line twin Buick digger. I believe that Tom subbed this car out to Ron Pelligrini to drive...

It is the Train in the background...(there actually were a bunch of Peters & Frank trains)...I wonder if that is Don Tuttle in the foreground? Don founded California Chassis Engineering in Chatsworth, built some really good cars...think his son took it over...anyone else know?
