    Hi everyone,
Has anyone ever had to ship a hot rod/classic car across the states? I would appreciate any recommendations for a reputable, but not outrageously priced transporting service.

    Thanks in advance.

BenD transported my 54 Chevy a few years ago. I was very happy.

You can have economical or reputable, they are not synonymous with each other. HRP

Don't send anyone money without a great reputation. BenD has a great reputation.

I just trailered a car from MO to NY. In retrospect I should have paid to get it shipped. If you really want to get a good idea of what a shipper is worth try pricing out a uhaul and a trailer, then figure in gas and tolls. If I would have been open to spend a little extra I would have saved the aggravation and spent the time better. You also might get lucky and find a good guy who has one extra spot and just needs a filler.

I typed the word (transport) into the search function here for thread titles, 113 threads came up. Do some reading of these and you will read personal experiances from HAMB members for haulers that are members here as well as non members.

Thanks everyone. I will look into your suggestions, I didn't know where to start and thought this would be a good place. I have to admit the name "BenD" is a bit odd for someone who is supposed to be handling classic cars....ha!

I will look into BenD for sure, he seems to be very well liked. I was just kidding around with the name.

A lot depends on how much value you put on your hotrod. Is it worth paying a little extra to have it shipped in an enclosed trailer ? Would you feel safe knowing that your hotrod is sitting out in the open on an open trailer in motel parking lots for a couple of nights ? Is the person doing the hauling an independent, or does he work for a larger trucking company ? Is the person bonded & insured ?
Just under a year ago I paid $1600 to have my coupe hauled from So. Cal. to N.E. South Dakota in an enclosed trailer, by an independent hauler who was bonded & insured, and had a very good reputation.
Ya gets what ya pays for.

I wasn't aware of the HAMB until after I got mine shipped cross country, first hot rod in many years. So I put it on that U-ship bidding site thing, got 100 emails and phone calls in broken English. I ended up surfing Craig's List in the area where I bought it and found someone who was going to haul solar panels from my location to his and had an empty trailer going out. Paid 800 plus tip cross country, less than even the lowest bid and went door to door on one enclosed trailer. I got lucky and my truck was a beat up project so not much worry other than getting it here. But I did sweat over liability, insurance and what not, something that's probably worth the extra bucks to have a HAMB guy do it.
