  3. The next one I do, I'm going to get a nicely restored and complete car then build a hot rod. To hell with hunting all the little pieces parts stuff down, fixing rust, and polishing turds. I'm more than reasonably certain its both much cheaper and much faster. Ill let you know if im right and by how much.

Everything not used will be returned into the restorers pool of supply for the guy who's dream it to restore his junk and offset my cost.

What the hell is a "wip" ?

I get that I really do but I have a hard time selling my stuff. I still owned every car I ever bought. It would make it easier on the pocket book to sell what I'm not going to use basically the running driving ch***is and put it towards my rod expense but I haven't a clue what the value is and I do like the antique look for a future restoration. But for now it will eventually be a rod, I promise that.

I'm sorry, I don't get the don't use a complete car to build your hot rod deal, like what has been said, it is a Model A coupe, there are a lot of them around and it will make the build a lot easier for a first time builder and a whole lot quicker not having to hunt down all of the parts. I say go for it, build it just like you envision it and happy hot rodding.

Go thought the hamb 30-31 model A thread. Lots of good cars to get inspiration from. I think you should lower it, big and littles, chop to your like and drive. Have fun. Don't blow it apart immediately. You will get frustrated and lose interest.

Good luck and post pics dammit!

I'm not real sure how to post pics I have a few of it on the trailer bringing her home otherwise I haven't touched it yet

  13. 33 & 34 is a different story. Apples and oranges to A coupes.
The prices on 33/34 bodies cut apart, parts from 12 different cars, spread all over the driveway are mega bucks.

Grab one like this for 9gs or so.

stubs, that is a mighty fine looking A your starting with, that will make it a lot easier to hot rod. One thing, when posting pictures it is nice if you select the pictures to be full image rather than thumb nails, makes it easier for us following you thread. :D

  18. Hahaha, that looks like the one I posted.
Mighty fine start for a hotrod. That's exactly the way I'd do it

She's a little more rough than the pictures show its a ten footer for sure get closer you'll see scuffs in the paint and little dings but its worlds better than the rot I found for the same price

I didn't look much out of state but here in Wisconsin I go to shows and swap meets and I'll see cars that looked like they pulled them out of a lake for six grand then I'll see a restored one for nearly the same price it just seams logical to and more cost efficient to buy something that's for the most part body work complete

It isn't rocket science, it just makes plain old common sense to start with the best material you can and will make your first hot rod so much easier to build that you are less likely to get that feeling of being overwhelmed and becoming another one of those that abandons their project because they got in over their heads and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hot Rod what you have. There is no stocker that is too good to rod. Henry built almost five million. There are probably a few stockers out there that still can be modified.

Best thing to do is what YOU want to do to it. Start small break it up into small projects I.E. brakes, suspension, drivetrain..... Complete one small project at a time and before you know it youll be done! If you want to cut it up get the sawzall out!! It is yours and you have to like it!!! Doesn't matter if someone else likes it or not. :) now get in the garage!!

  27. make that 3 with me.

Deuce rails and frame from scratch is the hard way to go for a newbe. I'm just sayin. One thing that I have managed to learn over the years is that the model A on deuce rails is cool but not necessarily the holy grail. I know the heart wants what the heart wants but there have been some really slick A bones built on stock rails and even model 40 rails over the years as well.

That said aside from getting Mr Tardel's book ( I understand the Mr Bishop was an integral part of the book as well) if the car were mine the first thing I would do is access what I have and what it is that I think I need to get me to where I want to be. There are things that will need to be done no matter where you decide to go with the rest of the build like patching up the original body for example, that is a good starting place and something that you can do while you are in the planning stages.

Pull the fenders off, chop the top, throw on some 40 ford wheels and run it like that while you build the 32 ch***is next to it. Once you get the ch***is done move the body over ;-)

Well, just start marching! Hit the first decisions, then head out to get the rails:
Decision one...stock type or z'd stock type deuce rails, with body fully atop frame, traditional spacers to match deuce curve to flat floor, kick up into trunk...OR modern type deuce/A with narrowed cowl area on frame and possibly flattened out body mount area. Basic style and appearance decision.
Once you have those rails, many of the needs will appear, like crossmenbers, suspension, etc.
So just choose and obtain rails and let things happen.
