This is my first project in a cl***ic car. I have years of fabricating 4wd, Jeep and Other stuff. Looks are not important but functionality is key. So if you have any ideas i would love to hear them, and any tips how to do something better please let me know.
OK, lots of pics, thanks to wife and her hobby photography. Any questions reference a pic and i will give as much details as possible. That is my daughter helping out, she wants this car when its done
How are you going to convert the original front suspension to front steer? I have a 48 Plymouth and it has the same front suspension, it was used through 54 and all are rear steer.
I am using a Rack and Pinion from a 2003 Mustang. I made custom steering arms that face forward. I am putting it in from of the crossbeam and the bending the steering arms so the throw is enough. I will support the bend on the R&P arm with steel.
OK now some specs. I prefer not to use 60 year old technology but i love the old style (quote from Aaron Kaufman i think). I build all my own stuff so custom means me, for better or worse. Rear Axle: 2004 Grand Cherokee Rear Suspension: Triangulated 4-Link with Air Bags Front Spindles: Custom 4" Drop Front Brakes: 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Front Brake Bracket: Custom, from another thread in HAMB Front Suspension: Air Bags Front Steering: Custom Rack and Pinion: 2003 Mustang Cobra Motor: 1970s Ford 400 (link of build i will follow) http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrdp-9809-ford-406-engine-build/ Transmission: FMX currently, getting C6 More to come, just filling in. Parts on list are 2003 Mustang Hydroboost brakes, Mustangs pedals, fuel cell. Oh i am in need of parts, i can put anything to use, so if you have something to sell that may work here let me know.
Well put. Killer profile on the chop! These things look great sectioned, and you've obviously got the skills. How about it? Herb Gary's Plymouth (from Kustomrama).
Just seen this build kool I used a 318 and a 904 trans. i used a diplomat rearend bolt in almost. scarebired disk kit and a grand prix rack kits power and daytona master back on the floor. look for a set of 49 ply rear fenders they bolt on and look real good.
Very nice build. Now here is mine. I didn't build it. Has a built up slant 6 complete drive train from a dodge diplomat.
first question that comes to mind.. What could you possibly have hanging on the wall that your tying so hard to hide if your looking for an idea or two, check out the link bellow on my '51 Plymouth build and thanks for the memories of how nasty those seats can get, I can smell them just by looking at the pics (PUKE) jeff
Haha, maybe someday, after i photochop it first to see what it looks like. Would last thing ever. Also the roof line i wanted a tear drop shape with a full size back window. I worked very hard to not have a small back window and large C pillar. so now i have a large back window and small C pillar
Those are the licences plate i have gathered over the years. I lived all over the world and collected a bunch. And the seats, that is why i made my daughter do it!
Loving the build!! I'm building a 49. If I have any questions I know who to ask. The frame was rusted out on mine so I went with an s10 frame. I used a 318 & 904 but I dig the Ford motor!
Thanks, i like always doing something different, and Ford 400 is way out there. In my Jeep i built custom 14 bolts front and rear. Now its getting more popular but still. Also have a cantilever suspension on it. I heard 49 fender fit on mine and they look nice, so i am going to get a pair of those if you know of any.
I don't know where you live but here are some cheap ones on Ebay with free local pickup. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-Plymou...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2edd86731c&vxp=mtr Theres a guy locally in my area who has some 49 fenders. Of course shipping on things like fenders usually kills the deal. Luckily these cars pop up quite often on Craigslist so you might be able to find them cheap that way.
Not trying to be a ****, but WAY too many pics that take WAY too long to load. We've all seen ****ty seats & pitted dash knobs. Maybe try to stick to the repairs/modifications. Just sayin'...
better? New to here, and yes i noticed it was way to bulky. so now they are all thumbnails and open the ones you want, even the ****ty ones.
i have a 51 belvedere 2 dr hardtop posted on here, dont know if it will help its on a s10 frame with front disc brakes, 318 with ps pb drives good down the road, interior is out of a lincoln glenn
