The J & J Racing Team car belonged to John Kurtzman back in the 60's
John was making headers back in those day's along with his sign business and lettering race cars.

Here is Moriarity's clone of Jack McClure's Turbonique dual rocket kart from over on Vintage Karts thread. Yes, it was a real drag kart in motion. He booked in against fuelers because it hauled ass.

  10. I know the kart did race fuelers. On that day the kart made a pass, and something broke that could not be repaired at the track. Since they had both shown up, Tommy figured he would at least get a good PR photo out of it.

  17. img039.jpg img040.jpg This is Bob Lee of Ft Lauderdale Fl. These pictures were taken in 1992.
Bob told me he ran this car at the first race at the Miami- Hollywood track in 1966, He restored the car and ran it at the Last Drag Race at Miami-Hollywood in 1992 I recall three men who was at the last race who ran the first race Bob Lee- -Bill Carrol- and Jerry Gwynn. Bob was the only who still owned the original car.
Bob beleived it wasnt how fast you go -Its how you go fast

  20. Dick hung out with the Speed Sport guys and Karamesines and thus the Speed Sport scoop on the car...[/QUOTE]

I guess everyone that knew Red ran one of his scoops.

Speaking of Karamesines, here is his new Fuller car at Scottsdale...there is a story to go with this car, found on Don Ewald's site:

Like a fresh caught tuna in the sun, the Greek's first Fuller car glistens for my camera. That may be the Greek at the right front wheel, this time. This was one gorgeous car.photo & commentary by Bill Pitts

    Side bar to photo:
"Here's one that my on and off painting partner from the 60's - 'Don Staats' told me.....
It was in about 65 or so and I had headed north to start a (Custom Painting) shop up here (Seattle). Don stayed in LA a little longer before he came up too and got a job at Shelby's at the Inglewood airport painting Snake Roadsters. Don would sneak in a digger to paint in his spare time and the cowboy didn't mind. In fact he thought it was kinda neat - so he did this car for Karamesines while he was there - Silver flake with a lot of light candy blue fading - ChiZler on the nose in gold - bita Greek Olive branch artwork here and there - - mighta been Chris's first Fuller? (I think the Greek ran the car for quite a while).

Anyway - here's the story that Staats told me...
When the paint was done Karamesines and a bunch of guys showed up with the car on a trailer - ready to run except for the body - which they installed. Then they grabbed Staats - and all piled into this big Chrysler they were towing with. Soon a couple of bottles of Whiskey appear and are being passed around. Suddenly they are at the locked front gate of a drag strip - Staats thought San Fernando, but wasn't sure. It's a Wednesday and nobody is around. Somebody has a key and they drive in, by then it's raining (drizzling), so they stay in the Chrysler and more Whisky appears. About the time the latest bottles are empty Karamesines sticks his hand out the window and says "Ain't raining!" So they unload the car and get it ready - by the time their ready to go it's drizzling again - but Karamesines is in the 'go' mode. So they push down and fire the thing up. By now the track is starting to get kinda wet. The Greek comes around to the starting line - and takes off down the strip ... smokin' em real good! The car is sorta 'fishtailing' more and more as it goes down the track. A little past half track the the rears fishtail off the edge into the dirt. All of a sudden the tire smoke turns into this big 'Roostertail' of dirt and rocks! He stays on it - and it fishtails back onto the track ... the cloud of dirt turns back into tire smoke and he drives it through the lights, (or where the lights would be if they were set up). Staats said it was wilder then 'Ascot' - best driving he ever saw. When they got down to the other end in the Chrysler - Karamesines was sitting up on the roll bar - laughing!!! More Whiskey appeared."from Fred Vosk

    Just one more Greek story!

Lyndell White from Amarillo, TX, maybe Lee Christian behind his car?

Prudhomme beyond the lights at Pomona...pretty late to not have the chute out, shutdown was pretty short there.

Tommy there is a thread entitled Death of a Corvette on the Chuck's Speed Center 62 Corvette. Amazing the driver was not hurt. I believe the son, of the builder had heard that one door had been saved and he had been looking for it so he could give it to his dad (if my memory serves me- we emailed some time ago on the topic).

Thanks for the info. The Steve Reyes photo is the Nunez and Dillon 41 Willys at Freemont in 1967. Finish line crash that broke Phil Nunez' arm.
