Projects my first project thread, 52 Desoto

    After a slight modification I was able to get the headers to fit! I had to raise the motor up about an inch by putting washers btwn the lower and upper mount mount

    I got a mini starter and it won't clear the drag link. Anyone else had any experience with this. I know they make a clockable starter but 3/8 movement is all I can seem to find and I am not sure if that will cut it

    My last resort option is go with a Chevy trans with passenger side starter option

    Hmmmm I hadnt thought of that but my guess is no considering the length of the drag link I dont think an inch would have made a difference, I might try and reshape the drag link, not sure yet, I cant move it over toward passenger side anymore since ive only got about and 1/8 inch btwn the frame rail and headers on passenger side

    Someone on this site has the answer to your problem. Glad your keeping it all MOPAR. The softer easier way isn't always the best way.

    The reason I asked is because this has been done many times. And I can't remember anyone having this problem. The mini starter is smaller than the stock ones.

    Yes it is quite a bit smaller than the stock one, Im gonna mess with it a bit more in the am and otherwise I will try the clockable mini and then go from there, possibly get the drag link reshaped

    Its beginning to look like going w/ a chevy trans w/ passenger side starter may be my only option, After messing it with some more I just dont think there is any way to get a starter in there unless I can have one custom made and it doesnt look like reshaping the drag link will change anything since where the drag link connects to the steering box is basically right where the starter needs to be:( I wish I would have thought about this beforehand oh well it least its not gonna be that much of a pain to pull the motor and trans back out

    Oh I'm keeping the hemi. I wouldn't let that go anywhere. Just gonna swap out the 727 with a TH400. The trans adapter allows for a passenger side starter

    Before taking everything apart take a hard look at where the shiverlay starter ends up and what changes may/will be needed to your oil filter arrangement and whatever else.
    My suggestion would be to put a notch in the frame so that you could move the engine to the pass side an inch or so.
    Cut the frame in a tidy fashion and weld in a piece of pipe (split lengthwise of course) so as to follow the shape of the header tube.

    I am keeping the stock oil filter set up so it shouldn't interfere at all and I will still be using the mopar mini starter.

    I picked up a TH400 out of an 80s 1 ton crew cab today, rebuilt 4 yrs ago, hardly driven 2 of those yrs, pretty beefy trans I imagine, im happy I am swapping out adapters and should be all set w/ passenger side starter!

    my wiring harness finally got here today, delayed 2 days bc of the blizzard, we got 30 inches! Im pretty impressed with this thing for the price and am excited to start installing it tomorrow!

    Well I need some advice with this wiring, I dont know much about wiring and this is my first wiring job, mainly have some questions about tail lights and dash lights

    I got the rebel 9+3 harness, I am wondering about the fact that there are 2 dash light wires coming from fuse box and 2 wires that say dimmer power, I ran one to the dash light dimmer but not sure what the other goes too and I am also wondering about hooking up the tailights, I have the tail light wire and turn signal wire coming from the harness and tail lights have a double contact and single contact pigtail, do tail light, brake light and reverse light all run off same wire?

    I am also wondering if 8.8 MM plug wires will fit under stock wire covers or if I will need to modify them?

    Well I'm not an expert by no means but I've wired 3 cars before. All harnesses are slightly different. I would say the 2 dimmer power wire one goes to a indicator light in the dash and one goes to the dimmer switch. That is if one is a thicker wire. The taillights should have a power wire for your running lights and 2 seperate wires for your brake/ turn signals. Most also have a third brake light wire in there too. Most harness do not come with a reverse light wires. No a big deal to install.
    Not sure about the 8.8 mm wires. My hemi, I never ran the covers plates.

    The 2 dimmer wires are both the same size and color. There is a wire labeled indicator. I am also wondering do I run both the high and low beam headlight wires to the headlight switch on the dash or does the high wire go the foot dimmer. The tail lights just have the tail light wire and turn signal wire. There is a 3rd brake light wire which I don't have Which I can use for brake lights?

    Your kit is different than what I've used. If the directions aren't helping, you should call the manufacture's help line. You should have 3 wires running to the taillights. And have a dimmer power, a headlight power, and high beam all running to the dimmer switch.

    The chevy trans adapter showed up yesterday, got the motor and TH400 put in this morning, headers and starter installed and I test fitted the oil filter and everything is all set! I am very happy but I will be even happier once I unload the 727

    Well everything is really coming together, just ordered a SB mopar HEI dizzy and plug wires, my carb, rebuilt water pump and intermediate shaft & gear along with a few gaskets I still need will be here from 73RR on wednesday! really all I need is a fuel pump & battery and I will be ready to fire this thing off!!! I of course still need to get the radiator rebuilt

    Hot Heads has an OEM up angle adaptor (for future ref).

    yeah I know but it was one thing I didnt need to spend money on so I didnt, i can get the stock filters at the local tractor supply for like $6
