I was going to buy Ch***is engineering kit to split the wish bone and place a removable transmission cover on my 38 Merc frame. Me being dumb in this area how does one split the wishbone and make a wish LOL ,ES-2174 kit Thanks
Cut the ball end out and replace with bungs and tie rod ends. You will most likely need to heat up your torch and slightly bend the spring hangers on the front of the bones so the spring doesn't bind. HRP
Cut the forged end off and weld the little bungs in the ends of the bones, then screw the tie rod end or heim joint into the bung.
Cut the ends off where the casting ends on each radius rod. There are bungs that then weld into each radius rod end. The bungs are taped to accept tie rod ends. Best let a qualified welder perform this if you are not a GOOD welder.
It is not really a casting, that is just a term that is used. It's a forging and the original seam is welded. You can weld a forging. You can also weld cast, but it is a little more difficult.
I am hoping all this will be worth it so I can keep the original front end . Only thing I will change is modern shocks and add a disk brake kit on. I don't think a 307 chev and a 350 trans weighs much if any more that the flathead and 3 speed. Does the H.A.M.D have a DYI section with detailed instructions of peoples projects ?
Better not make any alterations on your 38 Merc parts..Those are extremely rare since Merc didnt start production until 1939
Leave the spring hangers in their original position and bend the tubes. Don't angle the whole rod and bend just the spring mount.
