  7. Is it a Freightliner, (or some such) with the 48 cab set on it or is the frame/suspension scratch built?

  8. It has a scratch built frame

The engine and dash components harvested from a KW

  14. A little heavier parts, but similar to what I'm building. My God, there is more than one of me in this world! LOL

  15. Modern electronically controlled diesel engines come with a fairly complex engine manangment wiring harness:eek: IMG_8523 - Copy.JPG

  16. I like the way the Dodge frame was run back so far, with the new frame over the top. Looks strong and well thought out. Quite the shifter linkage also.
I like my old Detroit diesel, wires to the alternator, water temp and oil pressure senders, and a manual fuel shut off. Open the fuel valve, bump start and it will run without any electricity.

Here is an in progress shot of the ***mins that I mounted behind the cab. I have seen others put it under the cab but I want the cab to sit as low as possible on this big old frame and, more importantly, I want some leg room.

Its a 6bt from a '92 Dodge. It actually took me longer to score a 2wd overdrive transmission for it because in my area everything I came across on craigslist and the few small local junk yards were 4x4.

6BT will be a great engine. I have one in my F4 although I used a C6 and US gear overdrive in mine.
I hope you post more as you progress.

Heres a few pics of a 52 Chevy my friend Mike is building, Ive been doing all the welding and will eventually be painting the cab. The rest of the project he is doing himself. Hes running a Ford 7.3 powerstroke behind the cab, a 1 ton dually ch***is thats been stretched to fit the wheelbase. And he is saving a very rusty vintage ramp body. IMG_0164.JPG IMG_0215.JPG

  24. Drew, Does the Pace Arrow track width fit the AD front fenders with the stock motor home wheels or did you have to find something with more backspace?

Yes they fit, barely, I haven't done anything except kind of mock up the cab with a pallet and some 2x4's as spacers. But the tires themselves don't stick out past the fenders, the hubs do. If I was to lower it as much as I really want to, I'm pretty sure I could only drive in a straight line because turning wouldn't be an option ha ha

....But I do like the look of the motor home wheels I have with the chrome simulators and tall tires

  28. Thanks. I know a lot of guys go with the motor home ch***is for the ease of steering adaptation but if the plan includes an engine relocation to behind the cab I'm torn with which donor option provides the most advantages? Maybe some of our members who have done a few can weigh in?
Right now I have a '54 Chevy COE on the stock frame with a '72 chevy 1 ton front end and Astro Van power steering and column gathered up for a future project, with a plan to set the engine (12 valve ***mins and Alison if I'm lucky) behind the cab for a ramp bed hauler. Should I keep looking for a derelict cl*** A motor home anyway?

    GM1930s

I have always thought the COE 's were cool either restored or modified to a new ch***is / drivetrain. Have kept my eyes peeled and by chance just recently saved the 42 pictured below from being s****ped. I have a 37 GMC pick up and thought having a 37 GMC COE would be cool, in my efforts to sell the 42 I had several come out of the "Woods". Missed out on one 37, but was then able to buy this 39 GMC COE on Saturday; should be delivered this week as the 42 leaves for its new home in West Texas. Plans for the 39 is to put it on a P30 ch***is and put an old school dovetail bed on it. Will have to sit in the corner for a bit until the 38 Delivery gets done; but can't wait to start hoarding parts and putting a plan together. Also, have a chance to pick up the 54 from the original owner about a mile from my house; let me know if there is any interest in that one!
