I think it had something like 94-7 win loss record and the chassis was built by Kent Fuller. The car never ran the newer 426 hemi because Keith Black felt the other cars were simply over powering the track.

Wonder how Prudhomme got Lilly Munster in that picture? That is her in the middle, isn't it?

I think everyone remembers it from the Hot Rod cover, kind of a shock when I saw it restored in yellow in the Petersen years ago. One of the best looking rails ever IMO. Bob

  11. Still one of the best looking race cars ever.

  12. The chassis was originally built by Rod Stuckey. When Tom Greer bought it, he had Fuller rework it.

I'm really curious what the wheelbase is. It looks to be about 102", but I'm not sure.

    1962 the car was being
    campaigned as the Greer, Black,
    Prudhomme dragster.

Opinions vary, but IMO this is the best looking drag car of all time.

  25. Just for fun :)
Based on 2nd pic in post #14 , wheel base Is just over 5-5/8 hemi sized valve covers.
They are 20" for a unit of measure.
so 5.6875 x20 about 113.75" but that pic is skewed a tiny bit

  29. Tom Greer owned a very sucessful machine shop and was the money behind the car. More recently (summer of 2014) Tom was attacked and beaten by a male and female burglar he encountered when he returned to his home in Long Beach, Ca one evening. Tom was able to crawl to a bedroom and recover his hand gun and chase the burglars into the alley. As a matter of self defense he shot and killed the female intruder and possibly wounded the male who was later apprehended. Greer was taken into custody and released. Tom Greer is 80+ years old. Crime is down in Long Beach. For more information on this incident you could google the LONG BEACH PRESS TELEGRAM or the L.A. TIMES and search Tom Greer. Moral; Don't mess with drag racers.
