He said stroked,400+ ci early Pontiac.I'm pretty sure he knows what he said,as he is the one who said it,after all.

If you want to nitpick, you should pay a little closer attention to what you're reading.See,what it says, and what you WANT it to say so that you will be right, are two different things in this case.;)

Anyway, been feeling under the weather all afternoon, and I'm going to get some rest,as I have to be up for work at 5:00am.

Feel free to keep on arguing with yourself about someone else's shit though.Moonrocket Jr.....;)

  3. THANKS! Advice taken.
Sorry guys I haven't been getting notified of responses. My bad.

  4. So many cool "period" van seats!

  5. I like the 60's Mustang seats but the modern version is a reclining bucket which is incorrect.

  6. I see a mix of stock and pipe bumpers. I like the pipes. Functional for sure. A bit heavier.

Good to see this thread is still going, and still stirring up conversation!
I run Jeep CJ buckets in my Austin, which have some padding, but look very old school. Still available from Smithy Built for reasonable price.

I used mid 70's Mustang II buckets in my Falcon. They had removable headrests, and I took them off, and had them deleted when I had the seats recovered.

And I have little push bumpers on the back of the Austin, but stock bumper on the Falcon.

I used the stock rear bumper to keep the street look, as that is the whole deal

  12. I have looked at a couple "jeep" seats that would work., The SmittyBuilt and Rugged Ridge

The Rugged Ridge look like they might have a bit more lateral support. The Smithy Built Jeep seats are very comfortable. I had Harwood fiberglass buckets, with thin covers, and they were too bare to be in the car more than 30 minutes.

  14. I think we are on the same page. I drive my hot rods so the seat needs to be good for 100, 250, or maybe 500 miles. Next trip is 264 miles to Raleigh for the Goodguys show in April.

Kirkey makes a nice low backed seat. Probably not as comfortable as the "Jeep" seats, but a lot better than Jaz or Harwood.

Since I'm building my car to NHRA specs and I need head support, I went with the highback seats. I did change the upholstery from tweed to rolled and pleated vinyl. I cut the rubber Kirkey emblem off. Even got a Tony Nancy Seahorse I thought about sewing on, but I probably won't. That would be kind of poiserish. :D

    Hi Larry

I knew Tony and he would not think that was too sporting to put his Seahorse on a brand X seat

To pay tribute to one of our great Hot Rodders & Trimmers I would have a trimmer sew you up a 12" by 12" square with pleats and a spot in the center for the Seahorse patch

Tony was famous for his beautiful pleats

Then put that in a nice frame and display your tribute to Tony, now that he would like !!!

You can get away without high back seats, if you attach head support to the roll cage. I know several guys who run their gassers at the drags and have the headrest on the roll cage. Some have them removable also, so they can unbolt them for the street.

I was led to believe that rear water tanks (and radiators too) were illegal for NHRA because it was considered "fluid" balast that could move, which is a no-no. maybe that's current tech and not back in the day.-rick

Not a gasser, but I had a street driven 34 International pickup that I played with at the local 1/8 mile strip. Got it to run 7.20s and they invited me to not bring it back until it had a cage in it.

  24. I have a buddy who built a 10 second Maverick last year. He is going to start "breaking" it in Sunday.
Local track Maryland International Raceway is a very nice facility.
    Nicer than some NHRA.
Runout area too short to go big time and there is a highway in the way of lengthening it.

    Hi Rick

I built my car to the rule book and nobody ever said a thing about the water tank

Out here at Fernando - Long Beach - Irwindale as long as your car looked safe to the safety guy you were in

In 66' I went to the Winter Nats at Pomona and they had 7 inspectors and wrote me up for having 14 things wrong, and had to change them all over nite

What a bunch of jerks they were, Herrera's Anglia was behind me in line with the rear slicks sticking out of the fenders more than mine

They wern't going to let me run because of that, so I asked him if they were going to boot out Manual too and after that they backed down on the rear tires

Never went to a NHRA meet after that, did want to have to deal with those little power brokers again

If my car was a clunker I could see them writing some things, but it was one of the better cars in line

For the next 2 yrs I had fun running at my 3 local tracks with no rule book problems at all

    G Don

    P.S.

My roll bar was just like the orange one in the pic, but black instead

I have diagonal front bars in both my coupe & truck but our rules are more relaxed here in the UK, both are 2"OD because they look more tradditional, Seatwise I have Empi buckets, they are ok with a little extra padding in them for street driving.
