I get a lot of comments on my hot rod, as I'm sure all of you do, some good, some bad and some downright goofy. The other day I pulled my Bantam, admittedly on the small side at 11ft., into the mall parking lot, straight piped Ford flathead rumbling along in all it's glory, spewing out hydrocarbons and catching the attention of a young guy between stares at his Iphone. Pulled it into a parking spot, gave it a few revs, turned it off, lurched forward a bit as I let the clutch out. Got out, shut the door, the guys says to me "Hey is that electric?"

    Anyone else?

  2. You can't top that for dumb. I won't even try.

  3. "Cool car........what color is that?..............Ahhh........red.

  4. I had my coupe parked at a friends house next to his 70 pro street nova when a moron pulled up looking at the cars and said, who has the rat rod! I said to him, where do you see a rat rod!!! DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A rat rod. picture027.jpg

  5. One I heard this evening at a local cruise-in.."My daddy had a coupe just like that except it had 4 doors and was a convertible!".....WHAT?..a 4door coupe convertible? HRP

"Nice Roadster, is that a kit car" , referring to my Henry Ford steel '32 five window coupe.

  7. rockys68chevypu.jpg .............pulled into the local convenience store parking lot to get a cold soda. I was driving my 68 chevy stepside with tan steelie wheels, black tires and polished stainless center caps...I loved the look
Three kids on bikes are circling around and one of 'em asked me.."Hey, nice truck! When are you gonna put some rims on it?" I said it HAS rims on it....painted 8 inch steel rims and the kid says.."No, man! I mean some RIMS!"...
    Damned kids.

Goofiest one I've heard was a friends 32 with a flathead and a McCulloch supercharger and an old man and his wife walked by, the old man looked down and said, "I wouldn't think a car that light would need power steering"

  9. Is that your car?

How many miles per gallon does that get?

I had a couple of cooks on their way to the Olive Garden stop me at a light and ask if my Econoline was a Concept Vehicle.

I get the "Is that a kit car" one too. Also "Nice Model A". To much of the GP anything that looks older than WWII is a Model A.

Looking at my Studebaker Champ pickup I had a guy say, "I didn't know Rambler made trucks." My reply was, "Neither did I."

  15. I also had a goofball at a car show last year ask me , what dirt track do you race your car at? Funny, I have never seen a dirt track car with slicks and wheelie bars.:D

Last year, while I was getting some gas a guy asked me if the T was on a VW chassis.
It was so tempting to say yes....

This thread could be bigger than vintage shots from days gone by. No shortage of stupid, but I don't mind if the civilians don't know shit. Not much different from the comments I hear from my non car friends. I stopped taking them to the garage years ago when they'd ask what I'd done on my cars lately. Wasn't worth listening to them struggle. Then again, most HAMBers would have WTF moments if they saw my stuff, too.

"What is that back there, a Mustang?"
"Actually that is a '68 Firebird"
"Oh well, close enough, it's still a Ford."

When I still had my ford everyone used to compliment me on my "awesome nomad". Being that it was a rot box any compliment was a good comliment

Kid who bothered my pal with the antique Studebaker.... "Why don't you put some 20's on that?". My pal: "Why would I go with smaller wheels?" (it has 22 inch steel wheels)

I overheard a guy telling his kid at a show one time that flatheads were overhead cam engines. He said you could tell by the timing belt that went to the pulleys on each of the heads!
