Glad your back and feeling better Chip and Fred too for that matter.

I almost never can get a photo to load until after I post the reply and then go to edit and more options. Then it always posts. I've mentioned it to the moderators and they either don't give a***** or can't fix it. Try posting it now above.

  2. Welcome back, Fred! The wife and I were up that way Dec. 27th. If I'd had a clue where to come looking for you, I would have! ;-) But by then, we had an idea you were taking care of someone (or something equally as private), so I just boogie'd on through to New Braunfels.

  3. Couple of T's from our monthly Classic Malt Shop cruise (Well, we cruise there every Friday, but once a month we do a Saturday cruise with a raffle and stuff)! I pretty sure these are his and her's T's, but I'll have to check on that.

I was thinking small and see what happened, remembering some of us need to finish our cars, but the Taupo Swap Meet one year would be cool. I had three of us in mind for starters and that included you Graham.:D:cool:

Edit; Turangi Swap Meet, not Taupo.

  9. You would be surprised at how motivated I am now after cleaning the garage and car up last Saturday Jeremy so lets just hope I can stay in this mood. Cyclone Pammy knocked the garden around a wee bit so have my sister bring her chainsaw in on Friday to have a discussion with the cabbage tree that looks awfully sick now so once I have that tidy, I'm back into T Roadster building.
My condolences on the death of your little boy Chip and I too can relate to your sorrow.

Thank you Whiplash, it was a pretty tough one. The last couple of months he hasn't been able to go down our back stairs to get out by himself, so at 1:00am, 4:00am, and & 7:00am I have awakened like clock work to take him out and make sure he did what he needed to do. Since his passing, last night is the first night that I haven't woke at those times to check on him. It takes a bit to get past your pets when they go.... This little guy will never be forgotten.

My condolences Chip, losing a pet is basically losing a family member, they are never forgotten, same as any other family member.

I have spent a lifetime rescuing and adopting lost, abandoned, abused and unwanted animals. I don't "foster" them for "placement", when they come to my house they come to stay. I usually only have 5 or 6, but I've had as many as 17 cats, dogs and goats at one time. But each and every one of them is precious, an individual who gets all the love and attention, praise and guidance a child deserves. And when they pass, as they ultimately do, I make them a solemn promise that we will all be together again one day, to run and play as we did on our best day on earth, and to never be apart again. It is good to see that I am not alone.

missysdad1 that is a wonderful way of imparting out relationship with our animals. We've lost 2 cats, and the purest evil, sweetest darling little Dachshund that ever lived. And we have another pair of dogs still, one of whom I'm certain still carries her lil sisters memory.

Sorry to hear this Chip, no matter what people say, they are part of our family..... a big part, I know mine are. Memories are great and fact they leave such a hole is because they are so special to us.

By the way Chip, I too, offer my deepest condolences. Easily the toughest part of keeping pets. But, if you keep score, the English gent and the drink and the lil girl with the flower kinda add a positive vibe to the week. You're dog is in a good place, always near your heart. And as a complete aside, where's Falcon George?

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your pal. Last Sept, we lost both our tiger cat and our 12 year old wire fox terrier ... still stinging from it. But I've always said ; when we lose one the best medicine is to get another. Puppy's have a way of relieving that empty spot. So in Dec we tracked down another wire...Artie is a VERY busy little guy! With me it's kinda a fall off the horse deal.

Chip's de-uglifing thread here has turned into much more than a T bucket beautifying site. Although their is a lot of that going on. It has brought a lot of guys with the same interest together, and remains interesting mainly because of Chip's unguarded openness. He is one of those people that can and does laugh at himself and his everyday life. Add that to his knowledge of T hot rods past and present and you have a very informative and fun thread.
And Chip I too feel your pain over the loss of your longtime pet/friend.
Not sure if I've posted these photos before but I'm sure the Bucket in the garage was never finished by the old guy (he is probably about as old there as I am now) standing in front of my roadster as it looked when I first got it on the road in '89, "ugly gaps" and all. I think his son that I grew up with probably got both the T and the blue 32 Ford roadster next to it when Johnny died. Last I heard the son moved to Chip's part of the country. His name is John Martines and was an auto trans repairman. If anybody sees either of the rods post it here.

  20. Damn! How did I miss that the first time? So sorry to here about Mr. Hei Hei Chins passing! :-( He posed with the ugly T back at the very beginning of the thread, right? Robin and I will pray for you all tonight. It's never easy to loose a pet, but another will come along when the time is right. We went through a span where four died right together a several years ago, and at the time I swore I wasn't getting any more, but here we are again....2 dogs, 2 cats, 5 fish, and one giant snake. If your an animal person, they just bring too much joy to your life to go without for one for too long!

  21. Chip, first, my condolences on the loss of Mr. Hei Hei Chan - I'm like you, pets are more like children and losing them is devastating. Hang in there - you won't forget him but time does help to ease the pain a bit.

Second, happy belated 50th! Hope this year is one full of good health and good times!

    Chip,
I'm sorry for the loss of your little guy. I'm betting the Goodguys trip was some good therapy for you and Miss Judy. Hang in there!

    Fred,
Good to have you back (a little late on that welcome, but better late than never).

    Gary,
What is the story of the bucket under the plastic with the 4 carb small block? I'm gathering that it belonged to the "old guy" standing in front of your roadster, and that other guy is you, right? Any more pictures?

    • Yes Tim the guy standing in front of my T was a neighbor Johnny as I grew up in Oakland in the '50. He had a son John about my age and yes Johnny built the T to that point in the '60s. Johnny was like the kool neighbor almost second father to me. He built model sailboats and stuff like that. In the late '50s he bought a gutted 32 Ford roadster (An old drag car) and made it into a street rod . My parents moved away from the neighborhood about then but I still visited his son John. Johnny(the father) had a couple of T roadster bodies in the backyard then. After I got married my wife and I moved to San Leandro (a suburb of Oakland) close to where Johnny and his wife had moved and we hooked up again so right after I got my roadster running in '89 I wanted Johnny to see it. That's where and when those pictures were taken. He always had those two rods in his garage. I lost touch with him and his son right after that about '90 and heard through mutual friends later that Johnny had died. I just speculate that his son John got the rods as he was into old cars too. I think John moved to Arizona after a bad divorce. I've often wondered about those two rods and where they are now. The last visit with Johnny and his son John was kind of a downer. John was going through a messy divorce and was in a bad place in life. I would like to see him again. My last name "DeFer" isn't as common as his "Martines" and he wouldn't have as much trouble looking me up as I would him. I hope he does.
The guy sitting in my roadster is my old friend Al that helped me a lot building my roadster. I was taking the pictures.

    I'll post a photo of Johnny's 32 roadster.

    Gary
