I've always used the little simple latches off cheap little cars. Like a corolla or something. Cable remote
I third the volkswagen. I think I used one off a rabbit/ scricco. in the late eighties on my 47 ford.
I used the hood latch from a Hyundai car. Spring loaded pin to pop up lid. Ran cable to easy to access but hidden spot on my 47.
I just put a crown vic one in a similar car. Cable and key release and electric popper if you want to get fancy. Bonus for looking the part with a Ford logo stamped in.
ANY VW shop can sell you a locking latch kit for pretty cheap. The one's I have used quite a bit were from late eighties/early nineties Honda cars. They have the long cable and release stuff that can be mounted on the floor next to the driver's seat. The latch is pretty self contained on the deck lid, with just a small hoop on the lower jamb.
I'm sorry Vicky, but... man this made me laugh! I'm going to ***ume it's for "Pandora". Yeah, not my place to name your car.... I know, I know. BUT! If that car doesn't deserve the name.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora's_box
Lmao, Yeah yeah I know But in actuality there's been a lot of good come from it after emerging from from the initial deluge of trouble. It will be probably be The Poison Apple Coupe when its finished, right now its known as Elvis. No need to be sorry here. ^^photo shop ^^ thanks Moose!!!
Do you want a hidden latch? or outside handle? If you want outside latch I think the stock set up works well. I messed with bear claw latch etc. gave up. Some of the Chrysler Sebrings late models have very strong solenoid truck activators.
It will have a handle, Probably like a 37 ford or similar. But that handle doesn't need to actually work the latch.
You might want to try a hood release cable from a mid '90's Ford F-150. ........................... Jack
Kind of self-serving reply, I sell a real nice very small bear claw style latch I call the micro latch that works great for trunk. Take a look and see if it might be a good choice for your trunk. I have sold many of these for trunk, glovebox, even sold several to a landspeed racer for his parachute tubes. I can sell just one latch, just contact me.
In the past I used hood latches off '76 Cutl*** Supremes, they have a ratchet action to the latch and are kinda sell adjusting; but pretty scarce in the U-pull-it lots now. I'm using a small bear claw latch from 38Chevy454 on my current project.
I used a stock 33-34 trunk latch but went hunting U-pull-it for the loop [receiver].I must have grabbed 5 or 6 different loops from foreign and domestic cars. I THINK this one came from a toyota..
Early nineties Pontiac Grand Am had a decent cable release trunk latch I've used before and snag one when available since it worked pretty slick, they made a lot of them.
