Look's like a Pontiac eng to me. Wander when and where the
pic was taken. Looks like it might be a Tenn tag hard to read. I love it.

Not every fun run is! Had a bad day,I never broke a crankshaft before, built lots of these "Y"s over the years for racing way back, was coming home from a car show sunday afternoon that was at Good Shepherd Chruch, started vibs ,oil PSI droped to near zero, got out looked but no holes or leaks,so limped on home and pulled it out monday, will take it apart this week. Time to hunt for some more old frozen up "Y-block v8"s for parts,292 or 312s in the $50 to $100 bracket. Looking at mains on my other extra crank today is not good ether from spair old motor I just tookapart too check. Bummer DejaVu292Y.jpg

Maybe I got a crankshaft,if it don't need turning down too far,we'll see soon, out of one more extra frozen Y. I try too get any Y's that get anywere near me in Florida if I can, fore just this type happening.
Nick came over with his blue 23T sbc 350/th350 longWB,to take my mind off my own probs,he needed a bigger gas tank installed an asked if I'd do it. His shorty truck bed just had a plastic 6gal. boat tank,so I added alum 11.5 gal. tube tank plus a floor he never had before,so he's got a bit of storage now for little*****. I feel better,at lest got something done.

I think you are right - it does look like a Tennessee tag and the year looks like it might be 62 ?

The top part of the show sign says "Customs, Hot Rods and Dream Cars in the Coliseum". There was a Coliseum at the Tennessee State fairgrounds in Nashville (it burnt down in 1970), so it could have been there maybe?

Guys '62 looks, sounds about right because of the skinny tie, the inch wall tires and the shoes.
Was hoping Chip could shed some light on it. Although the rod has a '50s vibe.

    Hey guys,
I HAVE seen this one somewhere before! I can't for the life of me think where though. I'm pretty sure the plate does read '62, 'cause I've stared at it with my dumb-assed half granny glasses on, and they confirm it. The external exhaust ports scream Pontiac, and I'm not sure that one of the earliest Pontiacs didn't have three ports like that. The only other engine with exposed ports like that I am aware of is a later Cadillac 472/500 series engine.

The skinny ties and such are screaming early to mid sixties, but the door on the car behind the shot is bugging me. It looks like a 'Vette from '68 or so to my eyes.

I wish I could put my finger on where I have seen this....

I think it's a Pontiac motor, too. The valve covers look Pontiac to me. It's a neat bucket. To me it looks like a sibling of both Ivo's and Grabowski's. I can't help on the year of the photo, though.

Hi Guys. Thought I would post a quick note while I am back in the U.S. I arrived in New Zealand on March 5th and had my time with my Mum. She had a small fall the second day I was home, and was in Hospital all the rest of the days I was there. She actually made enough progress during her stay that we had arranged to have her admitted into the Care Facility she had chosen. However on Tuesday, The day I left to come back, she wasn`t doing well and lost consciousness in the afternoon. I got on the plane, and she passed away later that same night, probably from a massive stroke. I`ll always be grateful that she hung on for me to get there, and we had that time together. It`s really hard, though, all we had for family was each other. My wife and I will be going back , hopefully at the end of the week. I think the service will be on the 26th or 27th of March.

You probably won`t see me on here for a while, but I`ll still make it back in time for the Swap Meet, I think. I know that you guys have me in your thoughts and prayers, and I appreciate that more than you know........Make sure you all tell your Folks you love `em.........:(......

Chip, I think that car in the background is a '61 Thunderbird.

Kiwi: Sorry for your loss. I was sitting with my mom when she passed a few years ago and although you're sad because she's no longer there, my comfort was in the fact that she wasn't suffering any longer.

Man Kiwi, I'm sorry. That's a tough one no matter how you look at it. The time together has got to be your only consolation on that one. I'm glad you had it. take care on the flight back home again, and we'll all be here when you get back.

Deepest condolences, Kiwi. It's never easy, like was said, it is nice that you had some time before she passed.

  15. Heck mate, my heart is weeping for you and your wife, as mentioned the positives mentioned by others may seem to be small to the weight of lose and sadness you feel at the moment and it will seem like a lifetime will pass before you remember all the excellent times, the love, the laughter and joy of been a son to a wonderful Mum. My prayers will be with you.

Good point, Gary. Realise the good side of what has ocurred, in life that is the best way to look at these things.

Very sorry to here of your loss Kiwi.
Wow, I feel like kind of a dummy, but I'm using the shoe-phone excuse again, that screen is way too small. That said, mostly it's cuz I didn't know and opened my yap anyway, which is always the wrong move, but I had probably had a lil too much loudmouth soup when I floated the Olds idea. And for those of you are wondering why I don't know what an early Poncho motor looks like when there's a picture of one right over there <--, it's a Canadian Pontiac, so it's Chevy powered from the factory. Here's a pic of a '55 287" Poncho, found on the goggle.

I see two center ports on the '61 SD motor, So I think that's out. And agreed, looks like a T-bird door. God bless Gary, I can nail the inch walls ( although I was unfamiliar with the term), and the skinny tie as far as time-frame go, but the shoes? I'd have never known that. I was born in '71, so thanks for the education.

I'll get on board with Pontiac and '62. Does anybody else remember WHITE LEVI'S early '60s.
Yes that's me next to the Firebird in darker beard days '80s.
This rod has so much right I'm not going to find fault. Oh yeah and "I'm not playing that game"anymore.

It looks like the car was back again for the 1964 show as well. I found this photo in a gallery of pictures of the State Fair on the Tenneseean website. The caption reads: "Car Lovers check out an antique car on display in the auto show at the coliseum during the 59th annual Tennessee State Fair on Sept. 24, 1964 (Joe Rudis/The Tennessean)"
