So the original Bob Tormey custom is for sale?? Any info or links to the add.? Would very much like to see it. Thanks. Torchie
That is awesome 30tudor, i wonder did he every mention this car and share any stories about it? Torchie, it was a joke...if you notice in the side profile picture there is a for sale sign in the window. I'm pretty sure this is a lost kustom as of now...but hopefully the Bob Tormey Mercury will turn up one of these days
Eric, dunno if I missed it in my reading or not but by chance the primer one didn't come from around Teaxarkana area did it? Looks identical to one an old friend "inherited" and had stashed away.

You miss stuff like that. lol Reminds me of a pic I have somewhere of the Clarkaiser "Artic Sands" with a for sale sign in the window with a price of $650.00. Of course it is circa 1958. Torchie
Hubnut it came from Alabama. The old man I bought it off of traded an old tractor for it a long time ago according to him
Great pair of cars and a great plan, although I might find that sedan hard to part out. The world needs more early style customs, and I'll be watching this one.
So slight change of plans….getting into this car it’s just to nice to pull apart to get my coupe on the road. Plan is still to put the 4 door on the road, but I bought a passenger side Appleton S-551 and going to order the long skirts from Agape and just roll this well preserved beauty…more updates to come..
Good for you. I know that this will most likely put a crimp in your plans for the coupe but from the pics this car looks really too nice to cannibalize. Torchie
Sweet ride to enjoy while gathering the necessary bits for your custom coupe - you lucky dog you! -Dave
Broken stud on one water pump and had to cut away material to access the other one....time to remove the front end, but good news is the old pumps are off new ones are on. Should be up and running soon now!
Update....the 4 door is just about ready to start the rewire to 12v....hopefully be able to post a video soon of the old flathead running. Skirts should be here in a few days. On another note picked up this 48 Ford from a old neighbor for a steal. Told the guy I don't intend to keep it, he said wife wants it gone so do what you want with it. So the car went up for sale, and ended up working out a trade with an established builder to do some work to the coupe. I'm going to keep y'all hanging until we are on the road Wednesday with the 48 and 41, but I'm pretty damn excited to say the least about what's about to go down to my 41 coupe!!!
Few updates for y'all....48 has left the building and the 41 coupe is at Miller Metalworks for fender repair and molding the rear fenders. The lead time from Sid's is 6-8 weeks for the dropped axle on the 4 door, but an altitude adjustment is needed. Front end is on the ground and the springs are being unwrapped for the 1st time
Front end is apart ready to be shipped out With the clip off time to clean the frame and motor up Before After.....hard to tell this car is 74 years old..
Great fun following along with you and your "fleet" of fat-fenders! That see-dan is nice, nice, nice! Dave
Thanks it's really nice to find a car that you intended to rip apart and it turns out to be as nice as this one. On top of that getting someone honest on board to help you through the process of getting things sorted out on the car. Give Faded Love Garage a follow on IG....Little bit of black paint mixed up and dusted on the frame now that it's clean....
So here they are test fitted to the car. Overall they look good, but will require some work to make them fit right. One of the problems is the latch system and the fit at the front. When I applied the pressure to the latch the metal pulled out of the upper fold. A couple tack welds took care of that. But it is still not enough. The whole latch panel in the middle lacks major support, tabs will need to be welded to give it more support. In addition, the tabs on either end at the bottom are less than desirable. We plan on welding tabs to the fender and bolting these to the fender instead of the wingnut tight tabs to the fender. The fit at the upper corner on the forward side has about 1/4-3/8 of an inch gap when pressed to the car. With all that these skirts are very nice but don’t expect a perfect fit, they will require some work to get them to look right.
Could you shoot a picture of the back side of your radiator, I believe the lower water outlets are cast iron and raise to meet the water pumps. I believe that I have a 41 Mercury radiator in my 40 Ford pickup in front of a 283 Chevy that was installed in the early 60's.
I should have elaborated a bit. "Universal 1941 Ford/Mercury radiator"; nice product, but there was no way it would work in the car without the cast outlet as the hose will not clear the crossmember without it. Had to rob it from the old rad.. Dave
My lifelong friend Marc GAVE me a '47 Ford four door sedan. NO rust, original black car. I was reticent because of all the doors...but my young wife said we better do it, just think what it can be, all cleaned up! This car's so straight I can't believe it. This thread convinced me. Mordors can be great customs. Now...Any more of those long skirts???
