The hardest part, Gary, would be in finding a 1/8 scale Caddy engine. I couldn't find one anywhere with a quick search. Of course, the SBC could be cobbled and carved into a reasonable facsimile. Hope you get to build it!

Glad Fred is back... Falcon George!?!?!
I want a Bucket SOOO bad but still at 6'5" and every bit a 325, opinons on the Wintec Roadster? or maybe i build a bucket and give it to wifey? There was a Yellow fad T you know MickeyT sportsmans, BBC with a tunnel ram that cruised around that was "it" for me when i was 16. I gotta go through some pics next time i go to my folks and i'll find some pictures of it.

Im thinking Black glass body, White interior 20/24" bed, 18-20" windsheild, 16"x10" ETiii fuelers, (undesided on front wheels maybe even Dow 7 coated but think that pushes the date to forward..) with some Towel city white wall cheater slicks tucked super close to the body. A 6-71 sbc (know its not a more "era correct" as a 4-71 but i have 6 6-71 blowers built with a 2" belt drive) and a front end as short as possible 5-6 drop axle (to bad we lost MAS) chrome T shell. Damn it am i building a Fad T?

  3. I have that kit too although mine is complete still untouched in it's box waiting for me to finish my T Roadster so I can make it as a model of the real car. I also have it already made but it was spray painted in a metalic bronze colour by a firend who painted cars for a living so I don't want to touch it so to speak.
Does anybody know if the bucket seats like in those models really existed, I was told once that you could use early Mustang seats but I would think they would still be too wide.

That was so neat that your daughter got it for you. She definitely gets it, understands your passion and is helping you enjoy it. ;)

  5. I don't dislike the Wintec roadsters, this one's off their website. Not a bad set of bones, just needs to lose all the 80's looking stuff (wheels, paint, V/C's, Fuel Injection, etc) and do what you listed above and I think it would be a pretty good looking car!

Ya, they not only existed, they still do exist. They are now called low back Dune Buggy seats and are a fiberglass shell with a lace over cover. I LOVE they way they feel when add just a touch of padding to the***** area on them, and they are narrow enough for a 'bucket body, too.

The magic of that little Tub model that I posted IS those seats, rather than a full original style seat back. They could be moved back a good 3-4" over a typical T-Bucket body's dimensions to make it comfy for bigger guys like Kona Cruiser and Nitro Brother. When Roy did his, he opted for a fixed seat back, which he made by cutting the back half of an old 'bucket body off, and glued and 'glassing in. He positioned it 2" further back than my 'bucket's body had it's seat back, and you'd be surprised at how much difference it makes in leg room! I set him up with a column like mine with a quick connect wheel, and showed him the webbing deal for the seat. Just like my car he sits down in it instead of on top.

I'm hoping Jim has a couple of those bodies left. I'm thinking I might just find a way to grab one and build a touring 'bucket.

Thanks - a friend of mine has just picked up a 27 tub and I was thinking it needed about 9" out of the wheelbase - it's about 118" at the moment. I've been lurking on this thread pretty much from the beginning and picked up lots of tips and inspiration - once we've finished my friend's tub I've got most of the parts to put together an early/mid 60s looking bucket.

  11. Surprise surprise guys, I'm not going to steal Chips thread but, I have to tell you all. I purchased a mig welder this week to sit beside my tig welder and it is a gas or gasless mig which once I have used the wheel of gasless wire, I will go the gas way by adapting a fitting so that both machines can be feed from the one bottle.
Anyway, I have been out playing with the new toy practising as it has been awhile since I have used ever the mig or tig. Well one thing lead to another and I decide it is time to tackle " the issue " that got me all down on the Roadster which made me walk away for too long and , do you know, with a total refreshed look at the issue, it seems to be a reasonably easy fix, so I'm buzzing again. Heck, I had to pull myself away from the garage and return indoors to check on Mum, but I was so excited, I have told her that I will be spending more time out there from now on and She appears all good with that so hopefully I will get some work done on the T with just quick trips in and out checking on Mum.

This is slightly OT, but do you use MIG to weld steel?

Over here we have MAG and MIG. MAG is Active Gas, like CO2 or mix Gas. For ferrotius metal.
MIG is inactive gas, like Argon. Mainly used for Alu or SS welding.

    Just wondering.

  13. Sorry, no pictures yet. Yes we use Argon shield gas for both Mig and Tig welders and mine can weld stainless, aluminium and normal steel. The main reason I wanted a Mig is with steeling out the fibre body for the doors to be functioning the tig welder was just a pain where as the mig can fill small gaps quickly and easily.

  20. Thanks for the photo's Jeremy and Tim will know what I'm referring to here about working in a single car garage. What makes it worse is those boxes of stuff from my home from when I sold it to move in with Ma take up too much space but what do you do with all the pots and pans , dinner sets etc that one collects after 18 years married to a lovely wife who loved cooking, catering and having dinner parties. Also in that lot is a TV, Stereo system plus other pieces of***** I should really sell or give to a charity.
Apart from the dust, the car doesn't look to bad but I will tell you thhat the chrome is stuffed. The left hand door although not finished opens and closes brilliantly but I was having trouble with the drivers side but as mentioned, I think I have it sussed now and won't have to cut out the A pillar and start again as I thought.

Marc, when I was looking at your T I was thinking that the chrome would polish up ok, not back to brand new but still be very presentable.
You do need to make a bit more space though, you don't want a fire in there when welding!

  22. Nothing wrong with old chrome! Got plenty on both my cars! ;-) As far as your storage problem goes, yeah, sell what you can. I just recently realized I've had a 10'x20' storage for 15 years (@$160.00 a month!) and a second one for 7 years that primarily has my wife's stuff in it! Ridiculous waste of money!

Yeah... it's amazing how much clutter we gather isn't it!? I had stuff in boxes that I hadn't looked at for years... had forgotten what was there actually. So I figured it was no use hanging on to it and shifting it all from house to house and took it all to recycling in Christchurch before leaving. Now I've got stuff that is still unpacked frome moving here that will be got rid of before moving again.

The doors in the V6 C-Cab I had back in the '80s opened and closed beautifully, but didn't have bearclaw latches. I've often wondered why more people don't have opening doors on their 'glass buckets... is it hard to do?

    Glen.

I'm working right now to see if there are any more "correctly sized" bodies available from what used to be PSI in L.A. I'll know later next week. These are awesome bodies, so I hope there are still some in the rather vast warehouse I have heard of all these years.... Partially 'cause I want to see the vast warehouse I have heard so much about!

Hey, I've said it a thousand times, but one more wouldn't hurt! This isn't CHIP'S thread. If it was it would have died a quick death long ago. I talk to myself all day everyday and trust me, it's not exciting! Post your stuff here, please. This has gone far beyond being about my car, this has become one of the best repositories of info on these cars ever written, and the more added, the better it gets. It's all about improving the breed!

  27. Well is fitting operational doors to a fibreglass '23 T Body is reasonably easy if you don't do it the way I did. Actually, now I'm have got this far, I kick myself for rushing into the job without too much thought and I know now that I could of approached the job totally different.
Thanks Chip and, yes, this thread has grown to be a very special place for all us.

That's actually a pretty slick way to do a touring type body out of one of these.

That is great, now people have options available if they can't find a touring body.
Nitrobrother, time to get serious! ;)
