My torque tube is level with the ground . Is there any type of seal I can install to keep the gear oil towards the rear? I know I have seen information on this before. Just can't seem to find it.
Big washer made out of sheet metal..Center hole about 1/4" larger than drive shaft and od to fit about 4" up tube, tack weld about four places and seal to tube with some rtv but don't tell any one you used a post 64' product..And because some one is thinking it; only drive up hill.....
I ordered a collar and seal from Bruce's hot rod shop out of Texas. Been quite happy with it. Gives you a nice seal around driveshaft collar. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I just hit this problem yesterday as well. I don't quite have everything sorted out as far as my mounts but I'm getting worried. Is the washer/seal trick the whole ticket or what?
My friend had a '39 with a severe rake and toasted a set of gears because the gear oil ran out. I went to a local shoemaker and he gave me a piece of scrap leather and I fabricated a seal. It worked for years, when he sold the car it was still in the car. If Bruces Rod Shop has a seal kit, that's probably the way to go.
Indeed. I did this with the full-float hubs on my rock-rig. The severe operating angles often encountered caused gear oil to weep past the seals, fouling the brake pads. I made a couple of rawhide doughnuts an put them between the bearings and the seals. Fixed.
I cut a hole in the middle of a tuna/cat food can and siliconed it in place. Has worked good for 16 years.
