  1. That would apply to many comments in this thread. Meanwhile, excellent content gets bumped down the page...c'mon guys, we're better than that!

  2. Me either, I bought a muffler called a terminator once and it came with a big sticker that said, "The Terminator says bite me". I am a little rough around the edges but I wouldn't put that sticker on my car for love or money.

GWhite is correct that we should be looking for more enlightening things to spend out time posting. These threads can be fun and I think all of us have heard the most goofiest things in the world stated at car shows and races etc. But I also think that unless someone just feels left out this thread pretty much has run its course.

  3. Well said!!!

  4. Since Mustangs was mentioned, I got a story about a Mustang owner and I wasn't even at a car show.

So I see this guy and he has a Mustang shirt on. I say nice shirt as a way to strike up a conservation. He tells me he has a 1964 1/2 Mustang. I say a '64, then you got a 50 year old car. He says '64 1/2. Then he starts to school me on '64 1/2 Mustangs, not '64 but '64 1/2. I was glad when he walked off.

First Mustang came out in April 64 and was known as a 64 1/2. Ford had a habit of doing this at the time, bringing out performance models mid year.

Had our 1967 Impala SS 427 at the gas station, local know-it-all walks up and say he had one exactly like that years ago,but HIS had 2 raised chrome louvers side-by-side in the hood,so my dad says"you must have had a chevelle?"Nope he says just like that car! Also had a guy driving a ratty early 60's Nova flag him down in the same SS427 and ask him if it was a CHRYSLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Ford had (has?) a nasty habit of changing all kinds of things mid-year. Makes for fun when ordering parts for just about anything.

  12. Speaking of stickers that why I changed one word on the back window of the buick wagon.I didn't want little old ladies beating me with their purses when coming out of the food store and I didn't want any problems with Johnny Law. HPIM2169.JPG Bruce.

  13. That would be a 63 6/4 mustang.

Actually before I ever knew that there was a 64 1/2 Mustang ('66) we looked at one on the lot at the local Ford dealer and it was just a used '64 Mustang. I am pretty sure that the title wouldn't have said 1964 1/2 on it either. But you are correct they are known as a '64 1/2 and did come out to early for the early release '65. Ford is known for doing things like that, makes it interesting.

The Mustang is the only one that I know of that they actually released a "new" model mid year. Maybe there are others that I just don't know about.

Ford also did the 63 1/2 Galaxie which had the restyled roofline on it

  17. So wouldn't that make the Deuce an A and a half? :D That would sure make the model 40 a deuce and a half, no that's a truck. :D

Not aware on those, you don't really hear Ford people making a big deal about them like they do the NASCAR Galaxie or the Mustang. But now I am wondering about the Talladega and did they sell that body to the public?

Seems like we have made some of the discussion on this thread of historic value, granted some of it doesn't totally fit the board but it is information of some value to someone.

  18. The '63 Ford Galaxie fastback was also a mid-year issue, hence a 1963.5, I believe they were titled as just a 1963.

  19. The actual titling may be determined by state. I am not sure that I have ever seen a title that designated mid year but I haven't seen every title from every state either.

That is on that would be interesting to know. Maybe a new thread title oddities from state to state.

It is apparent that Ford just couldn't get their new models ready in time to release them along with the rest of their cars at the start of the model year, like the other manufacturers did.:oops:o_O:eek::rolleyes:

Some people don't know that the 64.5 Mustang was really it's own model and not just an early 65 release. 260 engine, 5 bolt bellhousing, generator, some body differences.

New 1963.5 Falcons with V8s, convertibles, steering changes, chassis changes, and different rooflines (basically a new model), which is especially strange because they then did a complete rebody in '64.

Chevy introduced mid-year models too. The blue truck on the left is a 1954 Chevy pickup. The green truck is a 1955 1st Series Chevy pickup (produced until sometime in April). The blue truck on the right is a 1955 2nd Series truck (introduced sometime in April).

Actually, the VINs on all of the 1964 1/2 Mustangs has a '5' for the year. So technically - they're early. :D

LOL. For some reason [today don't have much reason] I want to say that the talledaga was released in street package but was called a name of a person, like the Eddie Bauer broncos..I beleive it had a lot of the race car features: flush grill, dropped nose, etc..The late Bill Flynn bought one from a guy just because it was in nice shape but neither one knew it was a special edition till somebody told Flynn when they saw the car at his shop..I think:confused:..

Was sent the half year thing quiet common? 54 Chevy and Jimmy trucks came as a 54 1/2? As well as mustangs, Fairlane and some mopars?

Volvo follows school years June is last year, July is next year.
I always thought that was an US phenomenon.

Edit LAROKE is way faster then me

  29. There was a time that NASCAR required a certain amount of a car to be released to the public which is why I asked. That is where the 63 1/2 Galaxie came from for example, it was the new speedway roof.

The '65 Ford Custom was another neat off the wall car.

Everyone forgets the Barracuda debuted about 3 weeks before the Mustang, both were out of synch with normal model year introductions. It may have been that both were afterthoughts that were not ready at 64 model time but their makers did not want to delay them till 65 model time.

I think quite a few cars have been introduced outside the normal new model times but no one gives a damn.
