Projects '42 Packard Street Rod

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by F-350Loui, Oct 25, 2014.

  1. On the question of whether a straight 8 Packard could pull A/C--I was personally acquainted with one that pulled a sawmill and planing mill for many years. Pulley mounted to the flywheel pulled a big wide belt going to an overhead jackshaft, with all of the machinery in the mill driver by belts from the jackshaft. That old straight 8 Packard did it without breathing hard, so I'd say the answer is Yes.

Member Squablow mentions those front seats. We want some modern comforts but I assure you they don't look like that any more. I'd also like to thank everyone for there kind words.

A great project worth doing. You could put any motor you want to power it. The car has great natural lines. I hope thid thread continues till the finish.

I like the Packard you started with a lot. I think the mods you've done to it are tasty and completely respectful of the original design. Keep us in the loop!

That tail panel almost has a Tucker look to it. Neat.

  11. I like it. definitely stands out amongst all the chevys and mercs. Is anything going to be done with that belt line trim that just bluntly stops in the corner of the deck lid opening? That piece of trim would look good if it tapered to a point before reaching the decklid line, kind of like how the hood trim has that nice point to it.

Thanks for the positive comments. The belt line trim, the one on the door has to be lengthened because of the removal of the door window frame and the one on the quarter has to be shortened because of the chop, there is a piece of trim for the trunk lid that does taper to a point

I have long been an admirer of the pre-war Clippers.......stock ones, mind you, but THIS is the best I have ever seen......I absolutely LOVE IT! Congratulations on a job very well done. I am envious of the owner. :)

If Packard would have built that car after the war, they would still be in business. Nice job, keep up the good work.

  19. You should get carried away more often! Perfect combination of vision and skill. I've not been much of a custom fan, but your Packard (and I love Packards enough to have named my dog Packard) has converted me. Perfect!

Tubman: Looking at the very first pic from the OP I was fooled too thinking it was a 4 dr. The Clipper script badge under the vent window looks like a 2nd door handle at quick glance.

F350: Nice work on the build. A wee little too street rod for me but great on vision and execution.

  26. For what it's worth, I see a very nice custom build, not a street rod, There are some on here that are way too sensitive about names, but have no idea about a quality build!

Thanks Wolfcreek-Steve. Because it as independent frt. susp. and rear four link it's not a custom. (so they say).
