Just wanted to mention that the club was at 2222 Jacksboro Highway, and known as the Four Deuces Club. This was the epicenter of illegal gambling in Fort Worth in the '40s and '50s before the churches pressured the police to stop taking bribes and oust the gangsters. Ultimately they settled in Las Vegas where they were more successful. This strikes a nerve for me as I've studied Fort Worth's notorious history for a while. I'm loving the pictures and info!

Well tonight are some pictures from 1951. These were taken when the California racers stopped in Dallas. Charlie Adams joined them on the trip to Daytona. They then went on to run at Daytona Beach where the SoCal team met tragedy when their driver was seriously in the accident of the car. Maybe someone will have more information on the cars. This is the "Taylor and Ryan Special). It was driven by Ak Miller at Daytona Beach in Febuary 1951 (or 1950) This car was on the front cover of June 1951 HRM. It was lime green and maroon. 27TRoadster.jpg

The "Evans Special" owned by Earl Evans and driven by George Bentley. George is seen in the helmet.

  14. Gold absolute gold, any mention of where the pics were taken of the wrecked So-Cal streamliner on the trailer? It has been said it was stripped and scrapped at Daytona. I know the engine went back to Vic Edelbrock, Mal Hooper bought the centre (not sure if it was a quickchange) and Al Dal Porto got the tyres (and wheels?)

(Correction. I am not sure where the pictures were taken. Their look to be leaves on the trees. Dallas was in winter and their were no leaves on trees as seen in the other pictures). The pictures were taken in Dallas on the way back to California. That may be Alex Xydias under the car. You can see the nice tow car. Maybe wbrw32 will remember this. Please add any information you want on the cars.

Thanks Karl! This is great stuff.
Y'all notice all the traditional hotrods were Fords. No one used International trucks or Dodges to make hotrods

Here is the rear view of the Jack Joerns special. You can see how low it was compared to the cars of the day!! JoernsCar.jpg

The following will be some photos from Caddo Mills airstrip. The photos are from the first meet ever held. The Chaparrals Roadster Club organized the event. There are hardly any black marks on the ground. CaddoCar2b700.jpg
