Yes, this is the Greek, in his gold-plated car...reportedly the only time that the Greek got upside down...he was ok but the gold plated car was toast...

Aussie Ash Marshall's Scorcher. Former Leland Kolb car that replaced Ash's Vandal (the first US built fueller to run in Australia and now in Big's museum). This car had a long history in Oz with multiple owners after Marshall. Now restored to this form and has cackled at Bakersfield

The Hussey brothers Ampol GT dragster. This car started life in Australia as a Kellison kit imported and raced by Graham Withers but is a bit like grandpa's axe--after several "incidents" there was not much left of the original car by the time that the Husseys (Graham and Alan) purchased it.



This is the Withers car in its original form (the photo is flipped and the brake handle was really on the correct side). This photo was from a "tow strap" shoot at the Castlereagh strip in Sydney and became the basis for artwork used in an Ampol print ad.

The late Dennis Syrmis at Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia. This is the second iteration of this car, the first being blown Holden six powered and run by Syrmis and Ron Richards. This A/G version had Rod Farrell's injected small block Chevy which was later replaced with a blown motor for AA/G.

Had to do a bit of research to figure out the meaning of "grandpa's axe". Sounds like the perfect phrase for the car you're describing! I feel enlightened...

 

Hang Em High 55 was owned by Grant Springer and currently by the racing Pruitt family from Springfield, Oregon. Might be seen running at Woodburn and Madras at the least.

 

How is Grant doing?

Floyd, Albrich and Bowman, the "Northwind" and Svela and Sons, both Fuelers in the pits at Madras,Or in '64.

 

Floyd, Albrich and Coonrod, this TE-440 preceded the Fuller car. Earl Floyd told me the car weighed around 1700, and had a 4200 lb clutch, it was a handful to drive. It ran 8.7 @ 187 in '62. Note the chain drive blower !
