a friend with great bodywork/paint skills did this for me. i thought it turned out well. just wanted you guys to see it. I know some of you don't like flat/satin black but I already owned the paint, and it will look good with the Maroon Leather that I peeled off a high-end couch. I know some of you don't like furniture upholstery but I already owned it. it will be getting a 305/350. I know some of you don't like "bellybuttons" but I already owned it. trying to use what I have and save my money for the 22 yr. old blonde I've been dating. she doesn't need any bodywork.

I'm doing my best just for you. but, I have to warn you, most of the time my best just isn't good enough. that's what my girlfriend keeps tellin' me.

  9. Well I'm old ( too old for a 22 year old for damned sure) maybe I can give you some pointers. :D

Personally I like where you are going with the little heap, but I lean toward liking your *stuff anyway.

*I was going to say junk but then people would be talking about us. ;)

Mr. Chevrolet, great job on the coupe. Please post what you do with the furniture leather. I have an eye on a friend's leather living room couch, chair & ottoman for my Model A if it even becomes available Any ideas would be appreciated.

I bought an almost new Maroon Leather couch, love seat and ottoman at an auction. surprised the shit outa me as I got it all for $25. tried to give it to my kids, neighbors even strangers cause it was so nice. finally I just peeled it all off and now i'm on the hunt for a used commercial sewing machine. youtube has a bunch of tutorials. i'll show of my skills when I get a machine.

I'm not convinced. You may feel like you got a bargain, I'm not so sure.
Upholstery leather found on furniture is very seldom good quality leather.
It's usually very cheap and thin bonded leather.
As such it doesn't last long and will not stand up to use in an auto interior.

I could be wrong, and maybe you have good quality real leather, but I have my doubts.
You do not buy genuine leather (expensive high end furniture) for $25 at an auction.
I'd be willing to bet you have bonded leather.

Blue One, thanks for the great info. Never knew "furniture" leather existed. Always thought leather was leather. I should have known you can't get something for nothing.

  17. Well I wish you were closer I just happen to have a good used commercial sewing machine and I need a seat cover stitched up for a seat I'm building. I would much ruther you borrow mine and me not stitch my own. ;)

when I get one, i'll probably stitch my fingers together. and I did get a very expensive set at auction. it was shitty weather, and a poorly advertised sale. right in my hometown. a JennAir downdraft cooktop in new condition sold for $2. it was downhill from there for the owner.

I'm still not buying it (the expensive furniture part).
If it really was an expensive living room set with real leather it would be better for you to have sold it and with the profit you could have almost paid someone to do your upholstery.
You have bonded leather there, simple as that.

No problem yes that is true.
The hides they use in auto upholstery are just that, real hides that came off the cow :)
And expensive furniture with real leather is just that = expensive.
We are talking thousands of dollars and high end leather furniture is not throw away stuff like the cheap furniture outlets sell, and not something you will get cheap at an auction regardless of where it is.
And it's also not something that you would strip for the leather.

I'm a big fan of using what you've got to build what you want...as long as you don't redefine what you want to fit what you've got. Make sense?

So far your build loooks great! If the leather you're going to use turns out to be inappropriate you'll only be out $25 and your time. That's a pretty good gamble in my book...especially if it means keeping the blond, too.

the Blonde is now gone, said she'd rather be with someone her own age. I don't mind though, I was starting to dig too far into my car money. wish I'd have taken some pics of that couch before I stripped it, the blonde too.

Looks like real leather to me, although I haven't been on the inside of a cow or couch to truly verify.
