I have used a rack and pinion in a push pull application on two builds and I would say back in the 70s and 80s when T buckets were in there hay day in New Zealand it would be safe to say most had a rack and pinion for the steering box. They work very well.

  3. Thanks AlterPilot for that photo and yeah, the six pipes done like that is brilliant. Is the fuel tank under the seat ?

Although not my style this might answer your question. Without the body I really love this build.

  5. yeah, that chassis is brilliant. its like a street dragster. Love the front suspension and you gotta love the inverted rear leafs.

if anyone has pics of R&P setups like this let em rip! i don't think i'd put not in a bucket necessarily but i can think of some instances where they might come in handy.

What year touring?, just the seat back or do you need the base too? brackets?

  7. UncertainT... absolutely brilliant car considering it was designed and build at his Mum and Dad's garage I believe. The thing that drew me to that car and still does is the Buick Nailhead engine with the fuel injection plus the exhaust done like that just captured the show Hot Rod idea perfectly.

Has anyone used a dead perch on the front suspension and how did it work? Going thru my parts stash and picking out the pieces to use. I've found a 30" front spring with 9 leaves and I'm thinking it may be a little stiff for a "T"' looking at pictures and I see mono leafs and 4 and 5 leaves' so looking for advice there too.:confused:

  10. Bet that started as a sedan body, shortened, welded together and cut off up high around the back. Has that '15 T look back there. I really like the stance, color, everything except, if it were mine, I'd change out the headlights to something with shallower, painted buckets and the rolling stock to more authentic, period wheels and tires, i.e. real spindlemounts, piecrusts and real Halibrands (or modern, accurate duplicates).

Oh, and the grille's a bit too high...

Gary, nine leaves seems a lot. You might be able to leave out a couple of the ones on top though. I actually bought an incomplete chrome front spring originally for my roadster. I then had a correct length reverse eye bottom leaf made and painted it black. I then had to cut and chrome an extra top leaf with the Mustang engine. Then ayer installing the heavier Cadillac engine I had to make and chrome another one. I guess that's just the way I do things.

It wouldn't take that much to make that look very good, at least the way I would like to have it.:rolleyes:

One of my "friends" on Facebook just posted this. Probably to piss me off. It worked.

To those keeping up with my OT topic/project I just checked the three on the tree linkage and one rod hits the exhaust not letting it go into high gear. Looking like now in addition to running like new I think their probably isn't anything wrong with the tranny.

For those not knowing what I am talking about search back a couple or three pages.

It looks like somebody has been working under there. I already adjusted the linkage some. I think I went too far. The exhaust needs work anyway. I'm really beginning to think their isn't anything wrong with vehicle but that some "ass hole" that "didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground" started working on it.

Nice that you get to be the benefactor of an idiot not knowing what he was doing. ;)

  20. Yes, it certainly sounds like you will come out of this deal with a mile wide smile Gary and with your pockets having not been raided too much.

You know guys It's not so much about the money (or maybe it is) it's just what we do. It is fun getting a great deal on an old car/truck and working out the details and bringing it back to life. I know everybody on this thread know what I mean. And yes Marc. I've been smiling since I made the deal.

Hey Chip hope all is going well. Post a photo of the not so ugly bucket and get your thread back on track.

Oh my good God Gary. That blue "bucket" from your facebook "friend" hurts my eyes. That which has been seen cannot be unseen. Makes the red one from the Portland swap look like Ivo's car. To each his own, however.

If I ever wanted to unfriend somebody. Just kidding. I might be friends with the T bucket plans site. They don't any "UGLY RULES" evidently.

IMG_0242.jpg View attachment 2887462 OT project I've been sharing with my friends here and I consider you all my friends.

Just got under it again and looked at the three on the tree linkage and bells rung and lights went off in my head. The linkage pivot was on the wrong side of the lever. That is why it hit on the exhaust. Changed it around and now It shifts smoothly through all four gears. I love this shit. My neighbor the CHP Officer just came over in his courser and filled out the vin. info. form for the DMV. Got the battery box soaking in rust etch. I could be driving this thing this week.

Gary, I sure don't mind looking at more pictures of your roadster, but this picture doesn't show the OT project in it, anywhere.
Edit: Thanks Gary for changing pictures, although I wouldn't have minded if you had left the one of your roadster with the grinning Chip behind the wheel too.

Good job on the updated pic Gary ;) in other non T bucket related news, I woke my '63 Dart wagon from its winter slumber. Put some gas in her, changed the oil, pretty much good to go, save a brake adjustment, and fixing the gas gauge, which is somehow inop after a 5 month sleep. Soon though, my daily commute will be in something way more interesting than an '01 F150.

My young CHP neighbor just before he left said something to me. "If you have any trouble with anybody about parking the truck there just let us know at the office".
We have an "association" in our housing development here and they just red tagged a Mustang of his parked next to his house. Meaning he has to move it soon or have it towed. I think he is pretty fed up with them.
