History NHRA Junior Stock

Me in 69 at The Natonals with our ''state of the art'' hauler. lol! Some Plymouth guy in the back ground.

 

Wish this photo was in better shape but..... That's my brother Steves G/S Cobra Fairlane on the ramp truck with some ''lesser known Ford guys'' in the back ground.

 

Another Indy shot. I can mak out the ''Revenuer'' back there. Sorry for the Crusty pic.

 

What a crew. Left to right is Garry Johnson , Mike Dillman , tommyd and Steve Dillman. Indy 69. Think this was the year Lombardo got us in the final of G/S in his ''Buckshot'' Corvette. I have more of the Fairlane but one O/T is pushing it.

 

Anyone have a shot of the Frank Sanders ''Town and Country'' 64 Hemi or Max Wedge car ? Thanks.

It's really nice that you've begun to include a bit of narrative with your images. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who would enjoy hearing some more about your 'perspective' as a (lucky) young lad during your visit to the '69 Nationals. And THANKS for posting the family photos -- no need to apologize for their condition!

Ran across this article from Cars on Robert Hutchisons 55.

 

Finally! This has't been mentioned in the thread (at least I don't think it has been), but after teching a car in, spray paint was often used to "mark" an engine and it's parts, so any "tampering" afterwards, would be obvious. You can see some of that paint in the page 74 shot of this 55 wagon's engine on the drivers side intake, valve cover, carburetor areas. But, we all know that no one racing a Junior Stocker would cheat, right?. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

 

Would this be the same Texan with the last name of Hutchinson that later was the NHRA S/S world champion ?

The spray paint was added back then after a class win or a record run to make sure nothing was tampered with before the car went to teardown. Today we use a special sealer on bolts prior to the car going to teardown.

 

Motorwheel sponsored racers with their wheels in the early 70s.Jr stockers in those years had to have the original steel wheels, or wheels that weighed the same as the originals.

Yep, and the Spyders are no weight savers thats for sure.
