NO Gary, you need to strighten up your mind a bit.
You really hate this red T.
Not raked enough, white modern steeringwheel, fiberglass body, modern chrome wheels,
flake paintjob and a bellybutton Chevy mill.
Yes it have a 40 Ford gearbox.

ANDERSF : Except for the rad shell, I think that's a good lookn' "T". That "modern" Cragar slot&dot wheel was last made about 1964 and the chrome reverse were made with true early Ford centers. Pretty period to it's era.

I don't want to clutter up Chip's thread with pix of my o/t Plymouth, but there are a few photos of it on my profile page in one of the albums. It's a neat car but I seldom drive it any more and am thinking of selling it. Thanks for asking.

I did not see an answer to your dead perch question...but I may have missed it. I asked the same question a few months back on another T-bucket forum. Of those who had actually tried one, almost all had gone back to a regular perch with a panhard bar. Apparently they are fine for drag or dirt track racing (one way turns), but on the street the handling is erratic.

Thanks folks. I'm almost ready to commission the building of the frame. I just have a few more rear suspension dimensions to verify, then I'll pull the trigger.

Speaking of old Plymouths, a little over a year ago I had to make the choice between this T-bucket-list project or a '54 Plymouth project. I wish I had space to do both...I love late 40s to mid 50s MOPARs.

My first car, in 1978, was a '40 Plymouth coupe. Had a 283 belly button in it and I pulled it to slip in a 340 6-pak. After 25+ years of hauling the carcass from house to house I ended up selling it to the crew chief of the funny car I worked on for his kids to build. Last I heard it was still sitting next to his shop in Topeka, KS. :(

  8. Maybe time to shot up to Kansas and rescue your old Plymouth Nitro, and finish it to how you had planned.
I learnt to drive in my stepfathers '55 Desoto Sedan with flathead 6 and to this day have always wanted one but I would settle for a mid fifties 2 Dr hardtop Chrysler with the hemi in it any day.
Heck Jeremy that Willy's is so darn ugly it is beautiful. Are you leaving it as stock saved original car or do you have plans for a big block hemi with blower and all the trick Gasser style stuff ?

I think if I had to pic one 50s MOPAR, I'd have to go with a 56 Savoy.

My great aunt had one that from the time I was about 8 it was my job to keep looking immaculate inside and out. She promised that the car would someday be mine, and left it to me in her will. Since I was a minor when she passed, my dad took it and sold it. <grumble grumble grumble>

I'd want to do one like her's...white, with the old style exterior visor...then I'd take it a bit farther with fender skirts, lake pipes, lancer spinners, etc.

Don't have a T yet, but have a 40 Plymouth in my photos. I hope to get back to it and get it on the road this year. A painter friend let me down, so I've gotta concentrate on that project for a bit so it doesn't get worse.
Someday I may talk to Chip about my vision of a T and have a frame built once the rest is determined.

Ok ya want a 60s build ,it's a RPU but done in 64. Lakes headers with internal baffles were early Ford axle tubes. Sorry for the shity pic but that was scaned from a small pic I carried in my billfold for years. Copy of New Folder.jpg

  14. That is cool and many thanks for posting JohnEvans. So there you go, I could change to lake style headers with pipes and mufflers down under and not upset the era I'm trying to stay close too.
Sorry Jeremy but Mum's friends from Hamilton were up for lunch so had to cook and entertain for the day.

Speaking of lakes headers; if you aim them down like on the car Anders posted (post 7195) they look
more old style, of course using a '35-'36 drive shaft for the tapered section would help too. Pretty easy on an overhead; but gets a little more complicated on a flathead due to the lower exhaust ports.

You might be right Anders. Me just trying to be nice. Really I don't actually hate the red T. I just don't dislike it as much as some.

I have always liked the mid 50:s stuff best and still do.
But the early to mid 60:s are started to grow on me.
I had to research early 60:s when i started my coupe
becouse there where no one built in that era i wanted.
The oldest one i have see is from 57.

For many years, my t-bucket shared garage space with a '37 Plymouth coupe. It wasn't so much an extended project as it was a never ending project. Finally gave up on it, and sold it to a HAMBer in Hungary. T-buckets and old Mopars...who knew?

  21. Heck AndersF that is a real cool set up and the caravan itself looks real oldskool and you wouldn't have much trouble finding a buyer down here as the Rodding population here in NZ are starting to get into old caravans to tow behind their cars. Our Beach Hop Event now has a popular retro style caravan division that people are going to an extreme amount of time set up matching furniture etc.

This showed up at today's Hot Rod Hundred, photo by Hot Rod Ron...this was so sweet...semi-taildragger style and, even better, the original flat six was powering it! Sigh...

Haven`t posted much lately. But I have to get on here and thank Tim (with a T or two...) for taking time out of his weekend (last and this) and coming up to the Shop to help me get some things further along, and projects organised. Even took him to lunch today at Gary`s favourite eating spot.....Deuce Roadster coming through the wall and all......

Glad to see you and Tim together working. I think it will be a good team. Yes and a very kool spot for a meal.
You know that could be me in the roadster in better younger days.

  26. Now this is awesome and I really like the park light incorporated above the head light. Absolutely adore the deep purple colour ? or is it a red, don't know but it is bloody nice and really suits the car.

That is really pretty. A guy down the street from me has recently had a '46 2 door sedan appear in his driveway. These things are everywhere!:)
And yes, good job Tim for lending a hand.

When I put the '50 Cadillac engine in the roadster I knew I would need to build my own exhaust. I decided to make something like "The Lightnin Bug" style. Lakes style. I had some WWII shell casings around that I picked up someplace (garage sale I think) and had used parts of them for other things on the roadster. Gauge spacers. I needed something to reduce down the shell size so went to the local hardware store and found steel plumbing reducers would work. After a lot of grinding to smooth them down I welded them on. I was able to buy Cad. header flanges on line so I started welding U and L bends together. I had plans to have them chromed but ran out of time for a LARS show so just painted them with white HT paint. I actually liked the look so much I just decided to keep them white and paint them every time they need it. Every spring before LARS so far.

WWII shell casing bottoms were perfect to downsize the spedo. and tach. holes.
T took out Ford Cortina gauges that I had originally used.

Shell casings with ground plumbing reducer on top. The one on the rear tire is
    for the other side.

Just welded and brazed and the start of a lot of grinding and sanding.
