A couple of 55's out of the Northwest. Gary and Steve 1.jpg Parham and Doane.jpg Dirty_ole_Man.jpg

  5. The Parham & Doane 55 was awesome, made quite an impression on me! There were a lot of nice "five five' Chevolets then! The announcer at Woodburn always pronounced Chevrolet as "Chevolets"! Note the high tech Woodburn tower, and the food and souvenir stand in the background, plus the super dusty dead dried brown grass! Funky, dirty, probably totally unsafe...IT WAS THE GREATEST!!

I see Gary Parham and Steve Doane, every once in a while, we always have a fun visit. Steve told me the story about the last of the (3) 55's they raced. While at the Winternationals one year, Steve spent most of a day with a tape measure under the Stone, Woods and Cook Willys. When they got back home, they promptly bought a 40 Willys frame and Steve lengthened it to fit under the '55, and duplicated all of the suspension from the SWC car.

Marty, I don't know if you remember me ,but at the ripe old age of 15 ,almost 16 (1972)I bought Darrel Smiths ( Hillsboro auto wrecking ) 56 210 post. Black on black 327 4 speed. Spent most of the money I had saved from flipping burgers at the Hillsboro Artic Circle. ( that place was a car show every night) The front fender wells had holes for headers in them and I was told it had been a big block drag car. Trim was filled on the hood , rear quarter and trunk .Do you remember that car? Have any pics? Thanks Steve Pearson.

Hi Steve, I don't remember that car, but I do remember Darrel from the wrecking yard. If you are Ken's son and had 29 roadster I do remember you. You are right the Artic Circle was a lively place, plenty of drag races south of town on Hwy 219, were arranged while eating those burgers. Welcome to the HAMB

Yep that's me . Ken and My mom is the roar with Gilmore lady . Dad got rid of all his Rajo, Frontnac, and other speed stuff years ago but remembers all that stuff like it was yesterday. The guy who bought my old 29 roadster is talking about selling it. He hounded me for years to buy it because he could not stand the fact I was going to hot rod it. Maybe I should buy it back and old school hotrod it now. The 58 corvette I bought in 1977 had been an 1/8 mile car in the Portland area till he hit the interstate bridge with it. (Red and white of course . Any pics?) I sold it in 2000 to a guy in kaiser but lost track of it. Wouldn't you know the only car I still own is the 57 chev. pickup I bought in 1975. Is it still a barn find if I was the one that put it in the barn? Thanks Steve

  12. Thanks.
It would be good if some of the guys would use the post number when referring back to something...rather than an up arrow.
I still haven't found the bee burner or whatever.

It's amazing to me how many of us on this sight have so much in common. This is how I start my day before going to the garage.

Sherm Gunn's "Silencer," pretty heavy for an AA/GS but looked cool with its chopped top. Sherm would later go into partnership with Mike Hoag to form M&S Welding, they produced funny car and altered chassis' ... and Gunn would later join in the Lance & Gunn fuel altered, pictured here on earlier posts.
