NHRA Nationals, driving suit was a t-shirt for most racers back then

    No ID, Nationals

    GEORGEMILLER.jpg
George Miller...interesting that this coupe is classified as a competition coupe rather than an altered coupe, though it looks like it would fit altered rules, stock frontal area, maybe a 5" chop...

    heathatednaks54.jpg
Early Melvin Heath from Oklahoma...this may have been an NHRA Safety Safari meet, held before the NHRA did a Nationals in '55...notice the NHRA banner and the Dodge wagon that carried the NHRA crew from track to track towing a trailer...Melvin won the '56 Nationals

    inyokernchevy.jpg
Chevy fuel coupe, 302" GMC, at Inyokern, around '54.

    JF-14.jpg
This one from George Klass's collection, a fuel altered Metropolitan...talk about original!

For you Willys fans, lots of great Willys, including multiple versions of the "Hairy Canary" out of Washington State, love the steel nose!

Tony Nancy at Bakersfield...always the "Loner," he built nothing but high quality cars.

    nancy.jpg
Much earlier, Tony Nancy at San Fernando, '56 or '57, '29 roadster powered by the Sparks & Bonney blown flathead...Tony got high 130s out of this car, pretty swift for the time. After he went to his next roadster, the Buick powered Fuller-chassied car, this car went to Jim Seaton of central California, who fitted it with a Potvin-equipped blown Olds. It has been found and restored perfectly to the condition here.
    Teter,%20Larry%202.jpg

Lots of strong gassers from the Midwest, including the late Larry Teeter, from Elgin, IL. Almost looks like a street driven car, very clean, and very quick...Larry won a bunch of meets and set a bunch of records in this car.
