And, like any self respecting hot rodder I had to hop up the turbine sprayer :D The unit is a 2 stage turbine, and I happened to have a new Ametek 3 stage turbine in my cupboard :)
So, out with the 2 stage and in with the 3 stage. Better paint atomization and better spraying ;)
More Power :D ( In my best Tim Allen grunt) :D:D

Thanks for the offer, not sure I will go that direction. I may just paint the tank as I don't want to take the welds down (smooth them out) for polishing.
My experience with that in the past has been that doing so on aluminum welds can quickly lead to leaks that you never had before.
So, paint it will probably be.

  4. Yup I understand the concern, I usually leave welds as nice as yours as is and polish them as well, I have a thing for shiny beautiful welds, I really just wanted to throw the offer out there. Your whole build is truly a work of art, no matter how you finish it!

A Photoshop of the RPU done on the Photoshop thread (thanks guys) in the blue that I plan to paint it in.
The valve covers aren't correct and neither are the carbs, or spark plug wires but it gives an idea on the look.
Also, I now have a vin # on the car.

I have decided that I will be hauling the RPU over to Rod Tops soon for a new top and side curtain windows.
After that it's close to disassemble finish and paint time

I installed a drain on the gas tank, using a ball valve with a plug for easy draining. it will be a simple operation of removing the plug and then installing a barb fitting with a hose attached to drain the tank.
I had a guy in to do a preliminary appraisal for insurance and he took a few neat pictures.
One is a full side profile shot which is difficult in my garage and one I could not get with my camera.
The other is from under the quick change towards the front of the underside. Tank drain.JPG side shot.jpg Underside.jpg
Excuse my clumsy removal of myself standing at the front by the workbench  I don't do Photoshop :D
I like the side on shot.

Thanks brad, I think it's looking good. Gonna add it to the "ugly bucket thread" too :)

  14. Man the more I see of your T the more I adore the thing. It is the little details you have gone too that make it a standout, eg, the pipes from the headers drop down on the same angle as the chassis swage and then disappears through the chassis. The finishing panel at the other end of the chassis giving it a completed finish. The underneath is as details as the top is amazing also. Congratulations Larry on such an awesome build.

I did a few small things today, mounted the 37 Ford tail lights on a pair of mounts I ordered from So-Cal.
They mount to the bottom corners of the pickup bed.
Then I used a pair of old seat belt latches as tailgate latches and added a couple of rubber coated tailgate cables I scored at the wrecking yard off of a Dakota pickup.
I like it, I didn't want the old chain system for the tailgate.

  18. Wow, what an amazing idea for the gate catches, man I am impressed. Those are Chevie '37 tail lights and not Teardrop ones I believe.

The gate catches are brilliant Larry, very slick. Those are Ford lights Whip

  20. Yes, my mistake, they are 1937 Ford Tail lights but not what I believe are the teardrop lights as on the '39 Ford. Heck, I'm so confused now.[IMG]

  21. Sorry Marc, they are 38-39 tail lights. JW:)

  22. Which ones are what now Jeremy ? Larry's are 1937 Ford and ones above are, I believe, '39 Ford and then in 1940, Deluxe models had the "Sergeant" stripes and the Standard model had one only "teardrop". But, hey, I haven't had a drink today so that maybe causing the confusion.

 Oops :D My mistake. They are 37 Ford tailights but they are not called teardrops.
Glad you like the tailgate idea.
    Larry.

  24. Marc, the 37s are sometimes referred to as teardrops due to their overall shape, not just the lens, the ones you know as teardrops are 38-39 and the sergeant stipe's are on the 40, 1 for std and 2 for dlxe.
    Larry, looking soooooooooooooo good:cool::cool::D JW

Great thinking using those seatbelt parts for latches.

  26. Thanks guys and I can only add, those lights look darn cool on those little brackets and especially with the way the wires are fed down through them.

  27. Teardrops actually came on the 1938 Fords in the first place, except nobody ever calls them 38 teardrops.

  28. Took me a little bit but now I am caught up. Great work as always Larry. You may get to drive it soon. :D

Thanks Tim, it is an ongoing process. Rod Tops will be doing a top and side curtains for it soon, after that it will be time to take her all apart and start painting-finishing.
The first drive will be
