This looks a lot like the Leffler and Loukas fuel competition coupe from Parma, OH...anyone?

Eddie Hill, even in '58, Eddie was innovative, top rails bolted to Pontiac engine.

    No ID on either fueler...

Rod Stuckey, early effort, carbureted Cadillac, this is maybe '55 or so...no visible roll bar. Stuckey would go on to drive fuelers (badly burned at Half Moon Bay), and build them...his relationship with Kent Fuller is controversial...I'm not taking sides but I don't think that he and Fuller exchanged Christmas cards. He did go on to build some first-class fuelers, including for Tom Hoover, Bob Sullivan, Steinegger & Eshenbaugh, and Chris Karamesines, among others

Same car as above, in color. Rod Stuckey would later die in a plane crash.

Bonneville Raceway, looks like Garlits is in some kind of discussion with the guys in the front car...

Turk, Cox, and Wamsley, from Arizona, Mesa, I think. Dean Turk started out with a deuce altered, then to a Pontiac powered fueler, and to this car...

Same car at Fontana...from a magazine article

Don Breithaupt at the NHRA Nationals...this car won a bunch of meets, from Texas, think it ran a blown sbc

PVTA Starlite at the Nationals, thanks to PVTA Jay for ID

Vacaville, Pure Hell versus unknown dragster...note the T touring left of the tower...that's Fremont starter Chet Carter's ride, wonder if he was over from Fremont, or?? I know that Fremont was open during the Pure Hell days because it went off the track there into a water ditch....Vacaville closed a long time ago, you can just see the remains next to a freeway if you know where to look...

After Gene Mooneyham sold the 554, it went back east, sponsored by K&G Speed, got a new paint job and a new motor (Gene was a Clay Smith cam guy, note the new Howard Cams sign on the hood). It was later abandoned behind a shed, but the good news is that it was found and restored (sort of) to the original Mooneyham & Sharp form...now in the Garlits Museum.....

and if I remember correctly, the shrapnel took off a part of Ron Rinauro's foot...I think the trans blew, but it could have been the engine.

The one thing about the restoration of the 554 I didn't understand, was the choice if the Crower 8 Port injector over the Hilborn 2 Port that Gene ran on it. I suppose that the Crower was easier to tune, and made more power for the Nostalgia racing.

  11. I bet Rich wishes he had that young strong back now. I know I do.

I believe that this is the PVTA Starlight, not sure where

Starlite III, I believe this was taken at Nationals, don't know what year as I was on ship out of Pearl Harbor at the time.

You are welcome Jimbo17. I've been off work for few weeks with shoulder surgery so I've had plenty of time to dig them up. I could get used to this retirement thing!
