:D They work really well. The secret is to not try driving up on them :D Set the way they are they allow me to crawl around underneath and the car won't roll forwards or back.

You can't drive off of them either :D

Who me ? ;) I saw the picture and said who is that old fat guy :D The wife and I are on a serious lose weight plan as a result of seeing a few pictures.
I put on a pile of weight when I was down with the brain surgery etc., and then just let things go. No more buying bigger jeans and junk food

I'll get down to my proper size and will feel better about being in pictures :) I've dropped 10 pounds in the first 3 weeks just eliminating sugar.

Hey, Blue, I knew some guys who smoked crack to lose weight. They lost 50 pounds in 1 week, but they were broke and ended up in jail. :D

You're probably right. It was just a shoot from the hip idea to keep both hands on the wheel, as opposed to the common hand controls that rely on variations of the old "Necker knobs" for steering control.

Hmmmmm...I wonder if the minister of finance (wife) will buy this as an excuse to start looking for a 40s MOPAR.

If so, you can start with me, Bill. I've got a nice one that needs to go to a new home.

Ivo T after Bill Rolland bought it. Might be the best makeover I've ever seen. Actually I didn't think it need anything but Rolland's early '60s update was nice.

Maybe considered blasphemy but I like the Rolland redo better than the Ivo version, ,

I don't think that's blasphemy, at least he didn't "George" it like the poor kookie T.

I prefer the black myself, so if we're going to hotrod hell jalopy45, at least we go together.

I really, really like Ivo's version, that said, I'm in agreement. I like the Roland version better.

The only thing I could have done without were the carriage lights. I know they were popular at the time as were brass bulb horns but I still think they are extra unneeded junk. Other than the carriage lights I don't think anybody could have done a better job updating Ivo's T.

  20. But Gary, what would the stunning young lady in pink have to rest her hand on then...... oh wait, no, you better not say as we don't know if there is any young eyes reading this forum...;);)

  21. Did the Ivo T have a matching tail light as I don't think I have ever seen a photo of the rear of this car ?

I totally agree. When I first became addicted to these cars, those lights and other "stuff" seemed cool. But as I got older and looked closer, I found them goofy and sometimes even tacky. A true "dunsel".

Ivo's T had taillights in nerf bars in the back.

I have a "What would you do?" question.

The glass body I have is kind of unique. It is stretched 4" in the cowl, and 4" in the door. It is also widened about 3" at the body's widest point, tapering to a normal width firewall. All of this is good for me due to my disabilities, and because I'm a BIG guy. Also, due to my size and disabilities, I plan on cutting out an extra wide door on the driver side. The bad news is that the body is kind of flimsy, and the cutouts made by the previous owner are crude and oversized...it's going to take a lot of reinforcing and filling in.

Today I've run across a new '26-'27 glass RPU/Lakester body for a good price and it's local. The overall dimensions are close to what I have now, but the width at the firewall is about 3" wider. This body has doors on both sides...but not wide enough to make ingress/egress easy. The really good point for this body is that it's much heavier, and is a blank slate for channeling cuts.

If I go for the new body, I'll have to put off commissioning the frame construction for probably a year. I like the proportions/shape of my current body better, but the extra foot/pedal room of the new body would be a plus. I like the heavier construction of the new body, but I don't like the more restrictive driver side door.

Which way would you folks jump?

  26. Well Bill, we could all give an opinion on what body to use but at the end of the day, it is entirely your choice. But in saying that, running a another couple of sheets of fibreglass matting to the inside of your '23 body isn't that difficult to do to add more strength. I had to do that to my body also as it was too flexible in places.

You are asking the wrong kind of questions. [emoji4]

I would never buy another body if I already fit one, and I would never have anybody doing my frame.

But you should go for the body you want! And after that you should ask whom of your fellow bucketeers can help you with the frame, and if you can trade them a body for the work. And if they say no, put the spare body in the classifieds.

A bucket frame is usually a simple frame, so it should be doable for most of the true followers on this thread.

It sound like a innovative project, and if I can help let me know, but I'm fare away and can't drop by.
But I'm good at thinking out of the box. [emoji4][emoji111]️

I would be going with the body that will suit your overall requirements best, by that I mean in five years time. Kiwirodder here has very clever opening doors on his glass 26-27 modified, maybe Graham could post a pic of a door or I can get a pic when I see him tomorrow. The extra room in a 26-27 T isn't a lot but will help with your needs and to allow for your controls.

At the risk of displeasing some of the diehards who frequent this thread, I'd suggest that you allow form to follow function. The easiest and most efficient way to carry 10 pounds of groceries is in a 10-pound sack, which in your case would mean stepping up to a Model A.

Yup, that pic was one of the first I saved when I started research for this project...definite inspiration.

I had not thought along those lines. Thanks

The reason for having someone else do the frame is that my welding skills are almost nonexistent. I've never done more than tack welds, and the last of those were probably 30 years ago. Fortunately, if he's not too busy, I think I have someone who will build the frame for a good price. My current plans are based on his standard bucket frame.

I appreciate the offer of assistance. I'll probably be bothering you folks with a lot of questions as this project goes on.

What would be better down the road is kind of a toss-up. The '23 body with the expanded door vs the '26 with the greater pedal/foot room.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Kiwirodder's done. I like the looks of his car.

Actually, if I had the funds, I'd probably be building an extended body A-Bucket. Unfortunately, the A bodies are 4 or times the cost of what I have or what I'm considering.
