Last week, I took the bus up to the mountains where the Ranchero was located and drove it down to where I live here in Bø. Before easter, I made sure all the gaps were correct and nice. Here I'm just filing the side of the hood to make it fit nice. I built it on rather a tight time schedule, so I had to go over and make sure all those tiny spots and hard to get access places were nice. Sanding, sanding and more sanding.. This is probably the 4th or 5th time I'm blocking it. Have to make sure it's good for the big brothers. Or else he'll beat me up. The two cars in the middle belong to my room-mate. Monday, off to spray some primer. I usually do this at the garage, but weather is still cold here in Norway, so it dries rather slow. Best feeling in the world is when a car is ready to be sprayed! Tuesday morning, out of the booth! Sanding again, with 500 grit! Tuesday evening, back to the booth! Always nice to see a custom in white primer! The color I chose to paint the white for the stripes, is called Ermine White. A really smooth and nice shade of white that suits to green. Slick! Then ready to be applied green, silver, kopper, black, and lavender!
Very cool car! And beautiful countryside, houses and nice Volvos! Looks like paradise... Also very traditional paintjob without mask etc.....
Noooooo!!!! Not without me! Dang! Well it looks killer for sure! Joe Crisafulli told me that he thought he had some old photos of Jerry's Ford from when it was basically brand new. He dug trough some of his old stuff, and came up with this great photo! Joe believes Jerry joined the club before he bought the 1957 Ford, so late 1956; "Jerry was a wild and crazy kind of guy. It seemed like he didn't have a care in the world. He wasn't crazy, he just acted like it. The first time I met him was in San Jose. I was on 2nd street in front of Grand Auto Store, and he was sliding sideways across the street in to a parking space. I remember the car was brand new, and we took it to the drag strip. He wanted to break it in. After that we took it to Lake Tahoe to drive in the snow. I mean off road with street tires." Joe always has a good story or photo up his sleeve! Modifications at this stage included a shaved hood, molded headlights, dual Appleton spotlights, lakes pipes, and what seems to be 1957 Plymouth hubcaps. Notice the primer on the front fenders, front and hood! From Mild to Wild!
This is great! You guys are doing such an awesome job. I've enjoyed following this. Will it be ready for Customs By The Sea?? BloodyKnuckles
Thanks for sharing!!! It's great to watch this thread and see the passion for history as well as the cars that you have. I dig the green paint near the Splash pan. It's going to look killer! Way cool ride Kvipt See you again in New Jersey I hope.
Haha, last year my plan was to ship it over and have it at the show. Me and a buddy talked a bout sharing a container, as he wanted to bring two old Norwegian "hot rods" to race on the beach as well...then we came up with the new 1952 cut off year, so then it's staying home
Well, the day has come! Yesterday we drove the Ranchero to the paint job to start prepping it for paint! Finally!! It has been raining pretty hard here lately, so we had to wait for the skies to clear before we took it out...
Is that how you guys check to see if the paint is ready to go on??? This is a great story thread; please keep it coming! cheers, Ray
How many colors will be sprayed? What is the order of application? Is there a risk of lifting with subsequent maskings? How long do you expect the process to take? (Pardon all the questions, but who else am I going to ask?) I just know you've got a talented striper lined up, to seal the deal. Thanks for all the photos/updates! P.S.. Olav, I'm glad to see you wearing a mask!!! The earlier picture sure reminded of Watson...perfect hair, no mask....but where's the lit cigar? LOL.
Haha, good questions Mo! Colors, green, gold, black, white and silver. With fade effects and various types of pearl Haha, we're really sailing into fresh water here now, never experimentet with pearl before! The order...not quite sure, but we'll start by masking the white lines. Then apply green, followed by gold, black and silver I think. How long? Not sure, but I took a week off job to do this with Olav. We're on day 3 now! What do you mean with lifting?
Thanks for the reply, Sondre. By "lifting", I mean damaging the fresh under layers of paint when removing the tape, especially on the edges of multiple layers.. It may not be cause for concern. but I just wasn't sure. given the number of overlaps.
