    Hi everyone,

I have been racking my brain for months trying to figure out what wheels to put on my 1963 Fairlane Sports Coupe. I am looking to get the car to match its era a little better. I love the stance and amount of tire I have filling the front and back wheel wells, but the 16x7 fronts and 17x7 backs are growing old on me. Also I am sick of rubbing all 4 tires to some degree. I think I can solve that with 6 inch wide wheels.

My current thinking is 15x6 Cragar SS all the way around and match the height of the tires I have now in a 15". Current tire sizes are 205-55 16 front and 215-55 17 rear.

Let me know what you think.

steel wheels out back with pie crust slicks, radar up front
Steel wheels all the way around with dog dish caps
Hit the swap meet and find some old ET's
    Buy new cast Americans
    Chrome reverse
All would look great on your car

The car looks good now, just not traditional. Heres how the eras break down in my mind, correct me if Im wrong. Cragars - late 60 to early 80's. 15 inch torque thrust - mid 60's to early 70's. Chrome reverse - 60's all the way.

Keep the 7 inch rims, get your back spacing right maybe even use quality wheel spacers. Wheel well filled with rubber makes that car look right At that height.

    Great looking Ride!
    I'm just finishing a '62. Went with 15x7s.
Check out my website for pics.
1000Rims.com has a Tire Size Comparer that works great. Will give you all clearance, speedo change data, etc.

Mid '60's era wheels, all in either 14" or 15" diameter:
    -Cragar SS's
-As-cast 5-spokes (Americans and other brands)
-Chromed reversed steelies (lots of brands)
    -Raders

    Hope this helps.

IMO the main thing with cars of this era (any era really outside of cars that were designed originally with narrow sidewall tires) is to get as much tire as possible under them. And that means sidewall and width on the rear. That tosses everything above a 15 inch wheel.

Vintage 15 inch T.T. look great on these cars IMO. Basically it would look the same only better.

My best buddy had a twin to your '63 when we were in high school, only it was dark maroon/black bucket interior. Chrome slots were all the rage then (&cheap) (69-70). It was a looker.

I had a 63 Fairlane (bought it new) and for a while it had Radar's on the front and steel wheels, no caps on the back, blackwalls all around, not sure what happened to the Radar's (probably sold at a swap meet) but the rest of the time it had plain steel wheels until I sold it to a friend in the early 80's. Just one guys opinion:)

This is an example of non-traditional.

I found this picture online that got me really thinking about the Cragers a while back. It sits about the same as my car and I ***ume the wheels are 15s.

IMHO it's hard to beat the style mag that was popular when these cars first hit the streets. HRP

    I reckon 20 inch chromies wit' 35x255 ULPs man....noooo....joking!:p
....Torq Thrusts or 15 inch Cragars both look good choices to me. Most Falcons around here (NZ) are wearing Cragar 5 spokers.

Right now I use the car as essentially my daily driver in the summer. I average about 8-10k miles per year on it. I just need the car to be a fun reliable cruiser. I suppose the theme would be 60s driver/ boulevard bomber.

Either American 5 spokes, staggered 14x6/15x7, or 15x4/15x6-7, steelies with dog dish hub caps in same sizes, or chrome steelies, no caps.

I vote unpolished Torq Thrusts. But I'm biased.

Whoops! Haha. I have a problem skimming everything. My apologies. Vote is still torq thrusts though.

I'm old school enough to like a tire with some sidewall plus they ride better.

  25. 15" chromies. That is what I would want unless it was scary fast then I would want something made of magnesium. ;)

15 or 14" chromies would be very period, actually 14s but they are hard to find tires for any more.

I've always liked 15 inch American "daisy" wheels. The real name may be 200's, American still sells them, get as cast, not polished.

The daisies are pretty cool looking.

I found a set of 15" chrome reverse that may be available. The price seems right so I may give them a try.

put the wheels you want on it, if you go to the Fairlane club of America forum, there is a thread about different wheel/tire combos.
I have 15x6's TTD's on my 64 Ranch Wagon. Also my car doesn't sit low, it just a stocker.
