In fact MOST weren't primered black, and had decent paint, or at least the BEST the cat could afford!
I like it "as is" except maybe the pipes, I'd go for lakes headers, the matt black sidepipes are a bit out of character. Love the shiny blue paint tho'!
Yeah the pipes are a little funky but they sound great and get the job done so probably won't do anything with them right away.
Yes ^^^ Don knows. During times of recession or depression cars were not finished as well as they were other times, and there have always been rodders who didn't have the cash (think beaner here if you like) to build them the way that they would like to, but a decent finish was always the desired end result for the majority. During the '50s there was a recession, there were other things that were not so nice as well but lack of cash is what I am focusing on here. During that time a lot of cars didn't not get finished nicely, but as soon as people began to have cash again the people began to finish their cars again. I think that as a board or community if you prefer it would be good for us to try and major on quality instead of quantity and encourage anyone to build as nice a car as they can. Some of us will always drive beaters (think beaner here) but that is more of a personality thing and not all of us are low lifes. This little roadster is a good example of what can and should be had with a little work and is certainly what any of us should be thinking when we think traditional hot rod. OK off my box. Next
That black shit's been played out. I'd paint the wishbones black (or chrome) and maybe change the color of the wheels. The blue's not bad, but there's just too much of it. Maybe chrome the spreader bar.......just a few details like that might go a long way
Well said. Due to lack of money my first couple cars were primer or primer spotted. It wasn't "cool", it was fucking Ghetto. That said I don't "get" doing the primer thing on purpose. My cars are not show cars, they're decent drivers. But I would never lessen a car on purpose.
Like that car a lot. Definitely a score. Smurf blue? But, I'd chop that top a bit so it doesn't look like a horse drawn buggy. Lower the front some too...
Got it registered today now just have to fix a couple little things before the first drive. I've blasted her up and down the drive a couple times and the flattie feels really stout, should be fun.
Shiny looks great, It's been so frigging long since I had a shiny hot rod that I have shiny envy. I wouldn't be offended if you lost or changed the top on it though.
Yeah the top seems to bother everyone but it's kind of growing on me ( no pun intended ) I've had a heavily chopped A before and didn't enjoy driving all hunched over like a dog shittin' peach stones. This car has a very comfortable driving position and you can see where you're going +++++. I'll probably have the top off a lot this summer once I get the brakes working right, waiting on parts for that.
LMFAO!! Really like the shiny blue, chrome flaty, and choice on the wheels. Looks like a gas to drive and that the builder took some pride in his work.
Very nice ole hot rodder in Oklahoma built it and did a great job building it according to the "How to build a traditional hot rod" book. He took a lot of pride in it and that makes me very reluctant to make any changes. Things that I wasn't too in love with at first and almost changed have grown on me and I like it more and more as time goes on.
Drive it all summer, next winter black the frame and suspension and rethink the exhaust. Or just leave it alone and have fun. The blue is kind of a funky color, but I wouldnt tear it down just for a respray, mask carefully and you can do the frame.
Thats a cool hotrod. I love the shiny, always have,I started building hotrods in the 1950s and was in a lot of car clubs over the years ,so here's some"I was there for real". Kind of get up set at the wrong idea that flat was ever though of by very many as a finish,it was just primer an no one I knew though about primer as cool, just something ya had before the cool shiny got on. The top canbe fixed fairly EZ,just move back with the rearbow and for your hight you could bring down the center bow a little and get some new covering made later on,for now enjoy that cool hotrod'
Super, nice to have a buddy ride along! I did a tech some time ago on tops, hope it may help with a idea or two;http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/hotrod-folding-top-a-how-too-do-it-tech.857951/
I enjoy getting the feedback it's always interesting to hear other ideas. I'd never have picked this color combo myself but I'm learning to like it, I usually like wire wheels but like the solids now, the top does look kind of funky but is very functional as far as comfortable driving position goes. I feel that the builder did some serious thinking about function and comfort and not all importance on looking the part with too much chop, too low a stance, and a lot of other mistakes that I'm sure most of us have made trying to fit the mold and ending up with our knees in our chest hunched over like a dog shittin' peach stones, those cars are fun to look at but as you age like most of us are priorities seem to lean towards being comfortable and enjoying it. Thanks for all the feedback I agree with a large portion of it but not enough to tear into this car, I'm just going to enjoy it.
You wouldn't have to chop the top to make the top look better, like Dana said, if you reduce the hump in the rear of it it would improve it a bunch, I'm sure. Ask the photoshop gurus to do a slight mod on the top so you can visualize how it woulf affect the appearance and I'm sure you will agree.
