QuickchangeV8 - The Chaparrals club and others went to race both at Kerrville and at San Antonio as shown in these photos.

Karl, this thread on Texas hot rod history is just fantastic. I see that you have found my 27T in the 1954 issue of Hot Rod magazine. I knew that someone on here would have that issue and would locate that picture of my car. I have a couple of original pictures of my 27T when it raced at Kerrville airport. I believe the photos were taken in 1953. There is a good close up of the fellow driving the roadster at Kerrville and maybe someone will recognize him. I will try to get these photos posted up here in the next few days. I have driven through Texas from one end to the other and yes indeed it is big. What really stuck with me was how friendly the people in Texas were. They have got to be the most friendly people on the planet.

Karl, thank you for starting this post and sharing the history of the club and early hot rodding.
It makes me proud to be a Chaparral.

Mr. Wolcott thank you as well. Sharing your personal accounts and life of the early days. I appreciate it.

quickchangeV8 - I found a couple of more pictures from Kerrville. I thought I remembered your T. These were in the same group of photos I posted. It looks like a nicely built car. Does it still look the same now? Yes driving in Texas can be a long trip just in the state!

  23. I saved these from the ebay auction along time ago, was for sale on the East Coast, I have often wondered where it ended up.

That is definitely the same car Jimmy. It looks to be very nicely built. It amazes me when a survivor car turns up after 60+ years. Maybe someone will be able to identify the car builder from these photos.... Robert Saunders may have had something to do with the car. I think he was from San Antonio and he had an old sprint car set up for drag racing that I saw a picture at local drags in 1953. It also looked white (in b/w). Just a guess. Someone from San Antonio may know about the T.

  25. Kurt McCormick owned it at onetime but sold it to I think the person who had it on ebay.
