There is also a skyliner glass top local to Atlanta (south of the airport)... do not know how close the tops are, but the price was right.
Now that would be something! The later curved windshield is perfectly suited to the subtle curvatures of the shoebox Ford, and were in fact a defining element of Leroy Goulart's iconic custom. One for the ages!
A few years back there was a guy reproducing these acrylic inserts. Still available? A few years back therewas rumour that a stack of these has been discovered on the roof of an office in the local Ford plant.
I really like that idea,to make a carson top of Victoria roof with a regular shoebox rear window! At last weekend i went to a car show with a friend of mine, who has been US made car enthusiast since he was a kid.I asked him when was the last time he saw a '51 Victoria in here? The answer was same than i had:never! I've seen them on my travels, but never in this country. So finding stuff like that arent so obvious for all of us.
I'm getting packed as we speak to drive across three states in the morning to pick it up. Who knew they had become this rare here lol. I figure we may as well vist Minnesota while we are at it.
Swing by Muskegon!! Its probably out of the way a bit lol. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Look at Brent tearing it up all I want to know is is were is his tobacco pipe. Look like a pretty nice top can't wait to see it fitted,I'm sure it will be when you get home after 8+ hours of jonesing about it!!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Everything had a price. I didn't get them though. Once we got what we came for we scrambled to get on the road because I had to get up at five today for work. As it was we did not get home until two AM. I can't wait to have a few days off to start stetting this stuff up.
Will you be able to salvage the Vicky window frame/glass/trim to sell to someone who might need it? Might make a neat custom window treatment on a non-Vicky shoebox.
The first step will be to remove the Vic windshield frame and integrate my new convertible header bow and mechanism in to the Vic top. This will latch to the chopped convertible windshield and then on to the rear portion.
It's almost as if you've done this before, seems like you have a pretty good idea of what you are about to attempt. Way above my meager skills that's for sure. Bigger cohonies I guess.
I've heard of people making convertibles outa hardtops but never a hardtop out of a convertible . Takes dare to be different to a whole nuther level. I truly admire your vision.
There are a few notable examples. I don't want to go off topic, but I think this one has enough threads to tie it in here: Ray Goulart, whose brother Leroy's shoebox is at the top of the page, used a '51 Chevy hardtop on his '50 Olds former convert, complete with rear window from a sedan. (Albeit not removable.) ( Also check out Sonny Daout's '49 Dodge, another standout conversion. Or the removable Cad hardtop that Valley Customs put on Glad Ellis' '49 Merc.)
