What a cool article thanks for posting this Curt. Fastest pass was a 1950 Merc running 97.82mph but of course it had a GM engine in it. The best part is where the article defines the cars and states "these are called modified stocks and are NOT real hot rods" that's a real history lesson right there. Thanks again Curt and keep them coming.

Unless you're sandbaggin' about the times you've run with "Holly Hobbie", your best chance to bury the ole' gal was last year when she was hackin' & coughin' with an ignition problem on Friday & Saturday and still runnin' 3 tenths better than "Wheezy" has!

  12. Ha ha I am not sandbagging, I fixed the coughing and farting over the winter and now I need to run it at a track with bite to see how it runs. I am not use to such a large vehicle. The altered weighs a third of the holy heavy!

My uncle also has problems with hacking, coughing and wheezing.

He has got an inhaler (huffer) too.;)

  14. Put it in low before you stage, and actually shift the transmission manually, it helps.., not enough to handle ole Scarlett, but it'll help. Sounds like you've been leaving it in D for drag like the Dinky Doinker does.

I was actually talkin' about our 56 hackin' & coughin' on Friday & Saturday @ the Meltdown last year! Glad you got your respiratory problems sorted out too! It's always nice to make a clean pass when the motor's runnin' right! :D It's funny to hear you talk about a Willys truck being big and heavy! Then again my Willys coupe is 3600 lbs with me in it, so I guess I can relate. You should try drivin' a Tri 5!

  16. Your a funny guy. I don't race allot but when I do I put it in d for drag race. :)

The trans is a full auto th400 and if I leave in first it shifts no matter what. No idea why that is. Need to put a manual valve body in it.

You need a 12 volt momentary switch hooked either to the carb or gas pedal that hooks to a terminal on the side of the teams too.

That's supposed to help with full throttle upshift firmness.

I have a question? (Never had a Blower Motor)

How do you get vacuum to the trans. vacuum modulator?

Too much vacuum at carb. base?

Best thing to do is use a pdv pressure diversion valve if you are gonna drive it down the road but for racing just use the carb vacuum I've done it both ways but in my opinion run a stick it's much more fun plus that's what real race car drivers do lol

  25. Ya! Put a stick in it and give that slush box back to the drivers training school. I wouldn't want to run you for fear of getting run over by the Scary Mauler. I watched your you tube video, and the thing seemed kinda lazy in low gear, and it didn't sound like it was get very high before it shifted to second. I figured you were either driving it like Jeff said to, or he was actually driving it.

Dont know if this would help but (Transmission Parts U.S.A.) has a mechanical modulator.

  28. Right... but everybody ends up 'on the hook' sooner or later... certain brands more frequently than others... LOL
