Great photos, Mutt. As I was looking at them, I realized something:
    door.jpg
I've always like this style Funny Car... By "style", I mean a Funny Car built out of a CAR. The key for me was always "doors" and "door handles". I just never got pumped up watching the one piece plastic "flip top" cars. Even today, the new F/C's just don't cut it for me.

    Guess I'm just getting.............old.

Gabe, looks like you were close, here is a picture of the car, probably after Ed Taylor sold it, from Jim Sorenson's altered site, with caption:

    HartwellFrontuto.jpg
Hartwell & Frontuto, at Fontana...this is obviously the same car without the original lettering, same Austin 7 body, even the cowl vent open, as in the first shot...and VERY lavender paint!

    I love Dodge trucks.....Sad really...

  17. The indoor drags were held at the chicago ampetheater down town chicago. The races were held in the winter. Cars warmed up outside. The doors opened a pair was let in. The cars raced out the other end. Due to the snow on the tires and slick floor surface the races only lasted one year that im aware of. Several cars crashed due to the narrow exit that had pillars on both sides. A friend of mine has over 350 pics from those races

Cook & Bedwell, probably at AATA Nationals at Alton, IL, where Emory Cook showed Garlits how to set up carburetors for fuel, and then Garlits beat Cook, but lost to Postonian in the final. C&B held the fuel dragster speed record at 169 until Garlits ran 176 at Brooksville FL in November '57.

Zane Shubert's twin-engine sidewinder, ID thanks to ttwomotor.

I think that this is the other Herbert car that Zane Shubert drove, pretty sure this is Fontana. Looks like Zane in the middle.

Ed Pink's "Old Master" at Pomona, maybe Connie Swingle at the wheel?

I think that is the "Old Master" near side, McEwen far side in the Baney car...

Close-up of the engines in Mickey Thompson's twin Chrysler. Mickey initially ran it without a body, then build a streamlined shell for it, was going to run it at the '58 NHRA nationals, but stopped off at Bonneville, ran 294 with it, and from there it was on to the "Challenger."

Mickey in his slingshot, I posted an earlier picture of this car with its homemade body earlier..here it is with the Chrysler and the framing for the full body that he took to the '55 Nationals at Great Bend.

I wasn't really aware of that situation, after reading about it I've decided to delete those two photos showing his car and will never be posting another.

  28. I took this photo of M/T's twin on the trailer at old San Gabe.

  30. This is the other photo I took on the same day. Fritz had the car out for some testing before the body was built.
