Mark, I posted this same picture earlier in this thread, though with all the pages, reposts are likely (I have also reposted!). The guys in the picture are Kenny Ellis in the firesuit, and Leon "Bubby" Willis with his back to the camera...but the third guy in the jacket? I thought it might be Holly Hendrich, but I'm not sure...maybe Jim Tice, but maybe not.....Dean?

I always got a chuckle every saw the name ' The Sour Sisters ' since Kenny was one of the most happy go lucky guys I ever met !!!!!!

We met one Sunday nite in 59' when we street raced each other, and became good friends

One Sunday nite again we were parked in front of Bob's Big Boy in Van Nuys, and they had blinked the lights meaning they were closing and we were about ready to go home too

Well here comes two coupe's at us a 32' and a A, they said any action around here?

Well Kenny looked at me and said hell yes and we all went out to the side road at the Pierce Collage in Woodland Hills, and raced each other for about 20 minutes

Got out of our cars , talked for a bit shaked hands and went home and that was the best time I ever had street racing

Since most of the time you had one race and got the hell out of there, as not to get busted and wind up in the slammer for a nite

So that 20 minutes was a very rare deal

    R.I.P. Kenny

As posted earlier, Bubby Wilton in leather jacket with his 3 wheeler.

  11. Leon "Bubby" Wilton owned the blown SBC. Kenny Ellis built, owned, and drove the 3 wheeler. Dad and I knew Bubby from his gun drilling shop a few blocks from our machine shop in El Monte. We farmed work to each other for 40 years.

That's a great story...I didn't really know him as those guys raced in a class above ours, but he was certainly a shoe, drove a bunch of cars, including the early Freight Train, for Gotelli, etc.....didn't he have a red '57 Chevy in high school?

McEwan & Adams, Fuller car, blown Olds...If I remember right, Adams really didn't like the tail, and the car was sold, to become the "Mangler" that Danny Ongais drove.

Half Moon Bay, Chuck Flores in the old Safford, Gaide, and Ratican "Sour Sisters" car, not sure who he is racing.

    images.jpg
Jesse Van Deventer, Dean Lowe ID'ed, not sure who is running the blown roadster..

    King&Marshall-dragster-old.jpg
King & Marshall, not sure where this is.

Bobby Langley...if you ever saw him run, you never forgot it..."lift" was not in his vocabulary

    Scorpion-sold.jpg
After Bobby sold Scorpion I (not the car in the picture above this one, which is either Scorpion 3 or 4), it became "the Red Horse," I forgot who it went to, but Stillrunners filled in the information: "Bob Taylor ran the "Red Hoss" from Caddo Mills up into OK and on to Kansas - winning many a trophy with it....first on carbs and then this looks like blown." It was called the "Red Horse" because Bob worked for Mobil. In the picture of the Red Horse is Charles Sitton, who, along with Bob, also crewed for Vance Hunt. Information from Bob Wolcott, who crewed for Bobby Langley, and who has been a valuable source of information for Texas drag racing history.

Hank Westmoreland, in the Jim & Allison Lee car. Hank was a year behind me at Pasadena High School, drove a white '57 Chev...If I remember right, Jim and Allison offered him a house in the Virginia horse country if he would stay and drive their fueler, but California called, and Hank returned.
